Shoremen Fend Off Blue Jays, 12-8

Winters Scores Game-Best Five Times

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Host Washington College scored eight of the game's first nine goals to come away with a 12-8 win over visiting Elizabethtown in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby Jr. Stadium.  The Shoremen are 2-0 on the year, while the Blue Jays slide to 1-1.  Today's win was the program's 700th all-time victory as the team is playing in its 84th season this spring.

How It Happened
- Cam Carrigan and Nate Winters both scored man-up goals respectively to give Washington a 2-0 lead just 3:25 into the first quarter. 
- Ben Dickinson scored back-to-back goals to put the home side ahead 4-0 with 5:08 left in the first.
- After Elizabethtown scored to cut the lead to 4-1, the Shoremen scored twice in the last 2:05 of the stanza to take a 6-1 lead after one.
- Winters scored from Carrigan with 12:21 remaining in the second quarter to push the Shoremen's lead to 8-1.
- Elizabethtown scored two of the last three goals of the second to trim the lead to 9-3 at halftime.
- Both teams scored twice in the third with the Shoremen holding an 11-5 edge after 45 minutes.
- After giving up the first goal of the fourth, the Blue Jays scored the game's last three goals to provide the final margin, the last one coming with 4:05 remaining.

- Scoring: Winters (five goals), Dickinson (three scores), Carrigan (goal and three assists), Reeve Hargrave (two helpers)
- In Goal: Colin Gray (60:00, eight goals allowed, 10 saves)
- Brian Blanche (six ground balls and two caused turnovers)
- Ronan Miller won seven face-offs in the game.
- Washington was 17-for-20 in clears in the contest, winning seven face-offs and totaling 31 ground balls.
- The Shoremen had 15 turnovers, while causing six Elizabethtown turnovers.

Notes
- Washington won its 600th game also against Elizabethtown on March 5, 2012.
