#4 Generals Overcome Slow Start to Get Past Shoremen, 12-10

Carrigan Tallies Four Goals to Lead All Players

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Visiting #4 Washington and Lee overcame a three-goal first half deficit to come away with a 12-10 win over host Washington College in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby Jr. Stadium.  The Generals improve to 2-0 on the season, while the Shoremen drop to 2-1.

How It Happened
- Cam Carrigan scored two of Washington's three first quarters goals with his second coming with 6:20 to go in the first as the Shoremen led 3-0 after one stanza. 
- Washington and Lee would answer with the next four to take a 4-3 lead with 6:49 to go in the second quarter.
- Carrigan would score from Grant Matthews with 2:14 to go before halftime to level the game at 4-4 and that would the be score at the break.
- The Generals scored twice in 49 seconds to open the third to take the lead for good at 6-4 with 12:13 to go.
- WC would respond with two of the next three to trim the lead to 8-7 after three with Matthews netting an unassisted tally with 1:58 left.
- In the fourth, Washington and Lee scored four of the first five goals to lead 12-8 with 2:47 remaining in the game following a man-up tally.
- The Shoremen got the last two with the last one coming on a Ben Dickinson man-up score from Parker Barta with 15 ticks left, but could draw no closer.
 
For The Shoremen (2-1)
- Scoring: Carrigan (four goals), Matthews (two goals and two assists), Dickinson (two scores), Reeve Hargrave (goal and assist)
- In Goal: Colin Gray (58:42, 12 goals allowed, 17 saves), Skeet Hine (1:18, zero goals allowed, zero saves)
- Tyler Bishop (five ground balls), Tom Merritt (four ground balls and two caused turnovers), Brian Blanche (two caused turnovers)
- Washington, who got off 40 shots, was 21-for-24 in clears in the contest and totaled 26 ground balls.
- The Shoremen had 11 turnovers, while causing nine W&L turnovers.
