CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Host Washington College got a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds from senior forward
Kiersten Rose (Upper Marlboro, Md./Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr.) to hold off visiting McDaniel 45-40 on Tuesday evening at Penny J. Fall Gymnasium in the first round of the Centennial Conference Women's Basketball Tournament. The Shorewomen, the tournament's fourth seed, improves to 17-9 on the season, while the fifth seeded Green Terror cap their season at 17-9. Washington will visit #12 Gettysburg, the tournament's two seed, on Friday at 7:00 p.m.

How It Happened
- Neither team led by more than four points in the first quarter with
Maggie Lawrence giving the Shorewomen a 14-12 lead after one on a layup with 16 seconds left.
- Washington scored 10 of the second quarter's first 13 points to push its lead to 24-15 with 3:20 to go on a layup by
Abby Meredith.
- After the Green Terror scored the next six points to trim the lead to 24-21, the Shorewomen scored the final four points of the stanza to take a 28-21 lead into halftime with Meredith netting a lay-in with 22 ticks left.
- In the third, Washington took its biggest lead of the game at 13 points, 38-25, on a
Karry Kelliher free throw with 1:03 to go. The Shorewomen took a 40-28 advantage into the fourth.Â
- McDaniel would trim the deficit to just six, 43-37, with 4:56 left on a three-pointer.
- After Rose canned a layup to give the home side a 45-37 lead with 4:27 to go, the Green Terror would get the deficit down to five, 45-40, with 2:52 remaining on a jumper. That basket proved the be the final points of the game as Washington held on for the five-point win.

- WC shot 38% from the floor (18-for-48), 50% from three-point range (1-for-2) and 44% (8-for-18) from the foul line in the game.
- The Shorewomen turned it over 12 times, while grabbing 35 rebounds.
- WC outscored McDaniel in points off turnovers, 18-9, second chance points, 4-3, bench points, 6-5, and points in the paint, 26-12.
Notes
- In the other first round game tonight, sixth seeded Dickinson topped third seeded Ursinus, 71-57. Dickinson will travel to #17 Johns Hopkins, the tournament's top seed, on Friday night.
- Tonight was the first all-time meeting between the Green Terror and Shorewomen in the conference tournament.Â
