Shoremen move to 4-1 on the season

Washington College 17 Oswego State 9

How It Happened

  • The Shoremen went up 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning. Will Turner was batting in the second spot and hit a double over the center fielder's head. Drew Kinsey was hit by a pitch to put him on base immediately after. Both runners advanced a base thanks to a wild pitch thrown by the Lakers' pitcher. The next batter up, Chase Ruppel, got on base due to a fielder's choice by the second baseman. The second baseman recorded the first error of the game, overthrowing the catcher trying to get the runner out at home. This error allowed both Turner and Kinsey to score, placing the Shoremen on the board, 2-0.
  • Oswego State hit a homerun in the top of the second inning to place themselves on the board.
  • In the bottom of the second, Matt Lewis sat at second as he got placed on base after a fielder's choice by the second baseman, he then advanced on a wild pitch. Ty Everitt hit a single to center field sending Lewis home and earning another run for the Shoremen.
  • The Shoremen went up 4-1 on Oswego in the bottom of the third.
  • The visitors scored two runs on a two-run homer in the top of the fourth to come within one of the Shoremen, 4-3. Their efforts were well answered by the Shoremen in the bottom of the inning where they would score six runs putting them up seven, 10-3 at the conclusion of four. The scoring started for the Shoremen with an Everitt homer. Zach Stolze, Reese Hirsh, Scooter SanFilippo, and Lewis each earned an RBI in the inning.
  • The Lakers scored five runs in the top of the fifth inning to creep within two of the Shoremen, 10-8. Four of their five runs were scored on a grand slam home run to left center field. For the first time in the game the Shoremen did not score in an inning leaving the score at 10-8.
  • The Shoremen were back to scoring in the bottom of the sixth as Hirsh earned another RBI as he singled to centerfield sending Stolze home after he doubled to left field as the first batter up. In almost an identical play the next batter, Wozniak, singled to centerfield sending Hirsh home. Everitt sent the final run of the inning home as he sacrifice flied to the left fielder, sending Wozniak home. The Shoremen sat on top, 13-8, over the Lakers.
  • The Shoremen put the final nail in the coffin in the bottom of the eighth inning scoring three runs as Kinsey homered to the centerfield. The Shoremen went up 17-9 over the Lakers.
