Owls Rally to Edge Shoremen, 10-9

Turner Socks Three-Run Home Run for Shoremen

VERO BEACH, Fla. – Westfield State scored the game's final six runs in its last three trips to the plate to come away with a 10-9 win over Washington College Westfield St. on Tuesday afternoon at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex in a non-conference baseball game. The Owls are now 5-1 on the season, while the Shoremen are 8-3.

Westfield St. (5-1) 10 Washington College (8-3) 9

How It Happened
- Westfield State scored the game's first run on a solo two-out home run in the bottom of the first inning.
- Washington answered with five-run top of the second to go ahead 5-1. Zach Stolze scored on a one-out balk to tie the game and Scooter SanFilippo scored on a double to left-center by Brady Wozniak to give the Shoremen a one-run lead. With two outs, Will Turner socked a three-run homer to left that scored Matt O'Connor and Matt Lewis to cap the five-run frame.
- The Owls got two back on a two-run longball to left-center with nobody out to cut the deficit to 5-3.
- In the top half of the fourth, the Shoremen got the two runs back on a two-run single to left by O'Connor to chase in both SanFilippo and Wozniak.
- Westfield State cut it to 7-4 in the bottom half of the inning on a two-out single through the left side.
- The Shoremen notched two runs in the top half of the sixth on a one-out triple to right-center by Wozniak to score SanFilippo and Lewis base hit up the middle to drive in Wozniak for a 9-4 advantage.
- A leadoff home by the Owls in the bottom of the sixth sliced the Shoremen's lead to 9-5.
- The bottom half of the seventh saw the Owls score four times to tie it at 9-9. A two-run home run before a batter was retired trimmed the lead to two runs and with one away, a bases loaded walk and a single evened the game.
- Washington got a runner to third in the top of the eighth in SanFilippo, but he was left stranded 90 feet away from the dish.
- In the last of the eighth the Owls scored on a two-out wild pitch to take their first lead since the first inning, 10-9 and it proved to be the winning run as Westfield St. retired WC in order in the top of the ninth.
