Clermont, FL – The Washington College Softball Team split down in Florida. The Shorewomen fell via mercy rule in game one and then forced a mercy rule in game two to end the day 1-1.
Game 1: Washington College 0 Wesleyan 8 ( 5 innings )
How It Happened
- Gracelyn Goforth recorded the first hit for the Shorewomen in the top of the first. She doubled to right field but was left on base at the conclusion of the half inning. The Shorewomen gave up five runs in the bottom of the second inning to Wesleyan.
- They were down 6-0 at the top of the fourth. Lilly Wenzel singled to centerfield as the second batter of the inning, but she was left on base as Wesleyan was able to gather the final two outs of the inning.
- The last hit for the Shorewomen came in the top of the fifth inning. Chloe Trefz was able to single to right field and then advance on an error by the right fielder. The Shorewomen struck out twice and fouled out to end the inning and surrendered the game via the eight runs after five innings mercy rule, 8-0.

How It Happened
- Gracelyn Goforth doubled to centerfield to start the bottom of the first inning for the Shorewomen. Nevaeh Unzueta tripled to right center to send Goforth home and put the Shorewomen on the board, 1-1. Unzueta advanced home on a wild pitch to take the lead, 2-1. Mia Mavoides singled as the next batter up, and Julia Weglarz was walked right behind her. With Mavoides on second, Becca Foulk singled straight down the center batting in the third run for the Shorewomen, 3-1.
- Julia Guzman led off the second inning by putting down a bunt right in front of home plate. She stole second soon after. Chloe Trefz singled to centerfield to bat Guzman in. She stole second and advanced to third on a strikeout. Lilly Cook homered to centerfield to put the Shorewomen up 6-1. Unzueta reached first on an error by the first baseman. Weglarz singled down the right field line as Unzueta scored from second base. The Shorewomen led heading into the third, 7-1.
- Similar to the inning before, Guzman laid down a bunt putting her on first. She stole second and advanced to third as Trefz grounded out to the shortstop. Goforth hit a single up the center of the field sending Guzman home and moving the Shorewomen up, 8-1.
- An error by the centerfielder allowed Unzueta to advance to third base. Lilly Wenzel was hit by a pitch to get herself on first base immediately after. Weglarz sacrifice flied to centerfield allowing Unzueta to score. The Shorewomen were up, 9-1.
- The Shorewomen were able to get a quick three outs in the top of the fifth to force a mercy rule on Curry College. They took the game, 9-1.
