Shoremen Outpace Thoroughbreds, 8-6

Dickinson scores 100th career point

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Washington College Men's Lacrosse survived a late game comeback from visiting Skidmore to secure its fifth win of the season 8-6. Ben Dickinson recorded his 100th career point on an unassisted goal in the third quarter that gave the Shoremen a 5-3 lead. The Shoremen are now 5-2 on the season, while the Thoroughbreds drop to 2-3.

How It Happened:

  • Skidmore got on the board first off a goal with 11:03 remaining in the opening quarter. The Shoremen responded with an unassisted goal from Cam Carrigan with 6:37 left and 47 seconds later, a Nate Winters score featuring an assist from Grant Matthews to take a 2-1 lead after one. 
  • The Thoroughbreds struck first in the second quarter to tie the contest at 2-2 with 11:52 remaining in the half. Reeve Hargrave would break the tie with just over two minutes to go before Skidmore tied the game at 3-3 with 1:31 left before the break. 
  • To start the third quarter, the Shoremen scored two unanswered goals from Carrigan and Dickinson to extend the Shoremen's lead 5-3 with 5:27 to go in the third. Dickinson's goal gave him 100 career points.
  • The visitors scored the next two goals in 56 seconds to tie the game at 5-5 with 3:28 left in the third. Carrigan and Dickinson scored the next two goals to put the Shoremen back in front 7-5 with 1:06 remaining in the stanza. 
  • A man-up goal from Skidmore cut the Shoremen lead to 7-6 with 4:14 left. Tom Merritt scored the next goal after scooping up a ground ball and bringing it to the back of the net with 2:57 to go. The Shoremen held on to win 8-6.
