Shoremen Corral Cougars, 14-8

12 unanswered goals to open game propel Washington to victory

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Washington College handled the visiting Cougars of Chatham, 14-8, scoring the game's first 12 goals in a non-conference men's lacrosse game. The Shoremen secured their third straight as they advanced to 6-2 overall. Ten different Shoremen scored in the first meeting between the two programs.

How It Happened:

  • The Shoremen scored twice in the first four minutes of the outing. Grant Matthews scored both, with the first coming with 12:11 to go, and the second coming just over a minute later at 11:09. 
  • Two more goals were put up in the first quarter, both by Cam Carrigan. Matthews provided the assist on Carrigan's first goal, and the second came unassisted with 2:04 left in the opening period. 
  • Cody Trivits scored 28 seconds into the second quarter with an unassisted effort. Tom Merritt followed up the effort with 13:14 left in the half, as he scored off a pass from Jason Skidmore
  • Luca Signorello and Cory Morgan scored the final two goals of the half, as Morgan's goal came in the final 9:34 of the second quarter. The reminder of the half was scoreless from both squads. 
  • The Shoremen registered a quartet of goals in the third quarter, with Ben Dickinson scoring 48 seconds into the second half. Jack Dupuis provided the assist on a Brian Blanche goal before Nicky Bond scored an unassisted goal. Dupuis scored with 5:37 left in the third quarter to cap off a 12-goal run for the team. 
  • Chatham responded with seven unanswered goals starting in the bottom of the third quarter and ending with 3:26 left in the fourth quarter.
  • Morgan snapped the visitor's run with his second goal, before scoring the final goal of the contest with 35 seconds left with a Cougars goal in-between as Washington College secured the 14-8 win.

  • Morgan was named player of the game on the broadcast.
