SAN ANTONIO, TX – The Washington College Trap and Skeet Team (WCTS) competed in the largest ACUI-SCTP Collegiate Clay Target National Championships on record. with approximately 1,250 athletes, 60 Division 3 schools, and 31 Division 3 schools in the HOA. WCTS contended with less than ideal weather conditions all week but the team rose to the occasion and while the podium was just out of reach, the team had a tournament for the record books.
Monday - WCTS took the Sporting Clays range for the first event of the championships posting the 2nd highest team score ever with 397/500 earning them a 15th place finish out of 58 schools. The shoremen were led by
Trice Moore '28 (84/100). Rounding out the rest of the top 5 scores were Max McNulty '27 (81/100),
Chris Johnson '26 (80/100),
Hunter Clark '25 (79/100), Marcus Rosenstiel '28 (73/100).
Tuesday - Continuing with the sporting disciplines the team shot the Super Sporting Clays event breaking 427/500 and finishing 13th out of 49 schools. WCTS was led by both
Hunter Clark and
Chris Johnson (89/100) and followed closely by Marcus Rosenstiel (88/100),
Trice Moore (83/100), and
Colin Krug '26 (79/100).
Wednesday - Beginning the line games with Doubles American Skeet the Shoremen and Shorewomen set a program record breaking 451/500 and finishing 8th out of 43 schools. The top 5 scores were posted by Marcus Rosenstiel (96/100),
Trice Moore (90/100), Max McNulty (90/100),
Hunter Clark (89/100), and
Hartley Meyer '25 (86/100).
Thursday - Saw the conclusion of American Skeet with WCTS finishing 5th out of 59 schools. WCTS set two new program records, first breaking 477/500 and second by team leader Marcus Rosenstiel who posted the team's first scored 100/100 in American Skeet. Also contributing to the team score were
Hunter Clark (97/100),
Trice Moore (96/100), Katie Opielski '26 (96/100), and
Hartley Meyer (88/100).
Friday - Both trap events were completed on the final day of competition beginning with American Trap where the team set another program record breaking 478/500 finishing 8th out of 60 schools. WCTS was led again by Marcus Rosenstiel (99/100),
Hunter Clark (96/100),
Trice Moore (96/100), Gracie Heintzelman '28 (95/100), and
Chris Johnson (92/100).
In the afternoon the team finished off the 6 event series with American Doubles Trap setting one last program record breaking 434/500 and finishing 6th out of 40 schools. The team score was shot by
Hunter Clark (91/100), Gracie Heintzelman (89/100),
Chris Johnson (86/100),
Trice Moore (85/100), and Marcus Rosenstiel (83/100).
Overall, in all six events, WCTS finished in 9th place out of 31 Division III Colleges with a combined score of 2665/3000. This is WCTS's highest overall finish in the program's history.
