#11 Salisbury Sweep Shorewomen

Salisbury, MD – The Washington College Softball Team travelled to Salisbury to take on #11 ranked Sea Gulls. The Shoremen dropped both games in five innings.  

Game 1: Washington College 0 Salisbury 8 ( 5 innings ) 

How It Happened  

  • Salisbury scored first, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. 
  • Nevaeh Unzueta recorded the first hit of the game for the Shorewomen in the top of the second inning as she singled to right center.  
  • The score was 8-0 entering the fifth inning. Mia Mavoides reached base on a fielder's choice as the second batter up. Chloe Trefz singled through the left side earning her a base and moving Mavoides to second. Salisbury recorded the third and final out of the inning and ended game one in five innings.  
For the Shorewomen ( 4-11 )  
Batting: Neveah Unzueta ( 2 at bats, 1 hit ), Lilly Cook ( 2 at bats, 1 hit )
Pitching: Gen Kozub ( 3.0 innings pitched ), Emma Kitchin ( 1.0 inning pitched ) 

Game 2: Washington College 2 Salisbury 14 ( 5 innings ) 

How It Happened  

  • In the top of the third, Chloe Trefz singled up the middle. Gracelyn Goforth doubled to center field as the next batter up, sending Trefz home and putting the Shorewomen on the board, 2-1. 
  • Salisbury earned four runs in the bottom of the third.  
  • Nevaeh Unzueta led off the top of the fourth with a single up the middle. She then stole second to advance a base. Mia Mavoides singled to right field allowing Unzueta to score and moved the score to 6-2.  
  • Salisbury ended the fourth inning earning seven runs to go up 13-2 on the Shorewomen. A quick three outs gave Salisbury the win for game two.  

For the Shorewomen ( 4-12 )  
Batting: Gracelyn Goforth ( 1 double, 1 RBI ), Mia Mavoides ( 1 hit, 1 RBI ) 
Pitching: Emmie Meeks ( 4.0 innings pitched ) 

Up Next  
The Shorewomen will take on their first conference opponent of the season this Saturday, March 29th at Gettysburg. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 PM.
