Diplomats Outlast Shoremen in 2OT, 9-8

Carrigan Forces OT with 59.9 Left in Fourth Quarter

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Visiting Franklin & Marshall scored the golden goal with 2:42 left in the second overtime period to edge host Washington 9-8 in Centennial Conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Kibler Field at Roy Kirby Jr. Stadium. The Diplomats improve to 9-2 overall and 3-0 in the Centennial, while the Shoremen are now 6-5 and 0-3 respectively.

How It Happened
- F&M led 2-0 before Nate Winters got the home side on the board with 90 seconds left in the opening quarter from Ben Dickinson to cut the visitors' lead to one after the first quarter.
- After the Diplomats scored the opening goal of the second to go ahead 3-1, the Shoremen scored three of the final four goals to tie it at 4-4 with 3:09 left before halftime on a Cam Carrigan score from Reeve Hargrave and that would be the halftime score.
- Dickinson gave Washington its first lead of the game 42 seconds into the third quarter in at 5-4 with Cory Morgan netting the assist.
- The Diplomats netted the final two goals of the third quarter to take a 6-5 lead heading into the fourth.
- Morgan tied the game at 6-6 just 1:08 into the fourth before the Diplomats scored two straight in a span of 87 seconds to take an 8-6 advantage with 11:17 to go in regulation.
- Washington scored the final two of the fourth to force overtime with Franklin Smithmyer scoring from Grant Matthews with 3:30 to go to trim it to one and Cam Carrigan grabbed a ground ball off of a rebound shot and scored from the top of the crease with 59.9 to go to tie it at 8-8 to force overtime.
- Neither side scored in the first overtime though F&M had a potential winning goal negated due to a crease violation with 11 seconds to go.
- In the second extra session, Washington's final shot to win was turned away and F&M cleared the ball. The Diplomats scored the walk-off goal from the left side of the attack zone.

For The Shoremen (6-5, 0-3 CC)
- Scoring: Carrigan and Reeve Hargrave (two goals and one assist), Dickinson and Morgan (goal and assist)
- In Goal: Will Charvala (65:18, nine goals allowed, 13 saves)
- Tom Merritt (seven ground balls), Aidan Wilson (two caused turnovers), Ronan Miller (8-for-12 on face-offs)
- Washington was 21-for-24 in clears in the contest, 0-for-1 in the man-up and had 17 turnovers, while causing nine Franklin & Marshall turnovers.
- The Shoremen won 12 of the game's 20 face-offs.

Notes
- Hargrave was named Goose Nation TV Shoremen Player of the Game.
