Shoremen Whisk Away Cardinals, 15-6

Merritt Picks Up Career-Best Nine Ground Balls and Gray Stops Personal-High 19 Shots

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Visiting Washington College scored the game's first three goals and never trailed on its way to a 15-6 win over host Catholic in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Carlini Field.  The Shoremen are 4-2 on the year, while the Cardinals fall to 1-4.

How It Happened
- Cam Carrigan gave the Shoremen a 3-0 lead 6:45 into the first quarter with Grant Matthews netting the assist.
- After Catholic got one back, Washington got the final goal of the first to take a 4-1 lead after one with Matthews scoring from Brian Blanche with Blanche recording his first career assist and point on the score with 1:29 to go.
- Just like the first quarter, WC scored the first three of the second quarter to push its lead to 7-1 with 9:05 to go before halftime on a Ben Dickinson man-up tally from Nate Winters.
- The Shoremen and Cardinals scored twice the rest of the stanza with the road side taking a 9-3 lead into the break.
- Washington scored all three goals in the third to take a 12-3 lead into the fourth quarter.
- Both teams netted three in the fourth to provide the final margin.

For The Shoremen (4-2)
- Scoring: Dickinson and Matthews (goal and three assists), Carrigan (three goals), Winters (two goals and assist)
- In Goal: Colin Gray (57:03, six goals allowed, career-high 19 saves), Will Charvala (2:57, zero goals allowed, zero saves)
- Tom Merritt (personal-best nine ground balls), Alex Szell and Connor Updegraff (three caused turnovers)
- Washington had 52 shots, was 25-for-31 in clears in the contest, went 2-for-5 on the man-up, won eight face-offs and secured 53 ground balls.
- The Shoremen had 22 turnovers, while causing 18 Catholic turnovers.
- Washington has won all three meetings against Catholic with the Shoremen winning previously in 2012 (13-6) and 2013 (18-3).
