FORT PIERCE, Fla. – The Washington College baseball team opened its spring break trip in Florida by splitting with Franciscan in a doubleheader on Sunday at Bob Gladwin Stadium. The Shoremen jumped out to a 7-0 lead on their way to a 12-3 win in game one before the Barons captured a 9-8 win in eight innings in game two. Washington is now 7-2 on the season, while Franciscan is 1-1.

How It Happened
- Washington took command of the game with a five-run top of the second inning.
Chase Ruppel scored on a double by
Scooter SanFilippo for the game's first run. The next run came around to score on a passed ball that allowed
Reese Hirsh to come home for a 2-0 lead. SanFilippo touched home plate on a sacrifice fly by
Brady Wozniak for a three-run advantage. With one away,
Matt Lewis singled home
Luke Herz to push the lead to 4-0 and the five-run outburst was capped when Lewis scored on a two-out error by Franciscan.
- The Shoremen tacked on two runs in the top of the third on a one-out double by SanFilippo that drove in both Ruppel and Hirsh that made it a 7-0 game.
- The Barons got their first run in the bottom of the fourth on a two-out RBI double.
- Washington scored twice in the top of the fifth and three in the top of the seventh to reach 12 runs, while Franciscan got single runs in the last of the fifth and seventh to get to its three.
For The Shoremen (7-1)

- Washington had 14 hits, drew three walks and had four reach via hit by pitch while leaving seven on base.
- The Shoremen had two errors in the game, leading to one Barons run.

How It Happened
- The Barons scored in the top half of the first on a two-out base hit before the Shoremen tied it at 1-1 in the last of the first on a single with two away by Hirsh that scored
Will Turner.
- Franciscan netted a two-out run in the top of the third on a single to take a 2-1 lead before Washington got a two-out RBI hit by Ruppel that drove in Turner.
- In the top of the fourth, a one-out sacrifice fly by the Barons gave them a 3-2 lead.
- The lead would last until the bottom of the fifth when the Shoremen scored three times to take a 5-3 lead.
Ty Everitt came home on a double by Stolze to even the game at 3-3 with one out. The next hitter, Ruppel plated Stolze on a base hit to give WC its first lead of the game, 4-3. The following hitter Hirsh doubled in Ruppel to cap the three-run frame and give the Shoremen a two-run advantage.
- In the top of the sixth, Franciscan scored five times to take an 8-5 lead. The Barons loaded the bases with nobody out and a bases loaded walk forced in a run to cut it to 5-4. After an infield fly for the first out, a base hit by Franciscan would even the game at 5-5. The Barons would regain the lead 6-5 on the second bases loaded walk of the frame. A wild pitch would then give Franciscan its fourth run of the inning and a two-run lead, 7-5. After a strike out for the second out, the Barons scored their third run of the inning via a bases loaded walk to cap the five-run frame take a three-run lead.
- In the last of the sixth, the Shoremen answered with three of their own to tie it at 8-8. Lewis came home on a one out sacrifice fly to center by Turner to cut the lead to 8-6. With two outs,
Drew Kinsey pinch hit singled home Everitt to cut it to 8-7 and Hirsh tied it on a base hit to drive home Stolze to level it.
- After neither side scored in the seventh, the two teams went to extras. In the top of the eighth, Franciscan got an RBI single with two outs to score the runner from second and grab a 9-8 lead.
- The Shoremen had runners on the corners with two outs in the last of the eighth, but
Brady Wozniak was called for batter's interference for the game's last out.
For The Shoremen (7-2)
- Hitting:

- The Shoremen had one error in the game, leading to one Franciscan run.
