Washington and Muhlenberg Level in Centennial Two-Fer

Shoremen Win Opener 19-9 and Mules Take Second Game 3-1

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Host Washington College and visiting Muhlenberg split a Centennial Conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Athey Baseball Park. The Shoremen took game one by a 19-9 score in eight innings due to the 10-run rule before the Mules grabbed a 3-1 win in game two. The Shoremen are 18-12 overall and 4-5 in the Centennial, while the Mules are 14-14 and 4-5 respectively.

Washington College (18-11, 4-4 CC) 19 Muhlenberg (13-14, 3-5 CC) 9 – 8 Innings (Game 1)

How It Happened
- Washington took a 1-0 lead in the last of the second inning on a triple down the right field line by Matt O'Connor to score Reese Hirsh.
- The Shoremen scored three in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-0 lead. With nobody out, Hirsh scored on a throwing error for a two-run lead and Scooter SanFilippo would come home on a sacrifice fly by O'Connor for a 3-0 game. With two outs, Will Turner singled to left-center to plate Matt Lewis for third and final run of the frame.
- After Muhlenberg got one back in the top of the fifth to trim it to 4-1, WC scored a pair of two-out unearned runs in the last of the inning on a O'Connor single through the right side to drive in both Zach Stolze and Hirsh to make it 6-1.
- The Mules got two in the top half of the sixth, but Chase Ruppel homered to right score Drew Kinsey with one away to make it 8-3 after six.
- Washington got a pair of two-out, two-run hits in the bottom of the seventh by Ruppel and Hirsh to extend the lead to 12-3.
- In the top half of the eighth, Muhlenberg tallied six runs to cut the lead to 12-9 before Washington scored seven in the bottom half to win by 10 with Tahir Parker scoring on a one out sacrifice fly to end it.

For The Shoremen (18-11, 4-4 CC)
- Hitting: Ruppel (4-for-6, five RBI, three runs, home run), O'Connor (3-for-3, four RBI, two runs), Hirsh (3-for-4, three RBI), Kinsey (3-for-6, two runs, RBI), Turner (2-for-5, two RBI), SanFilippo (2-for-5), Lewis and Ty Everitt (two runs), Stolze (four walks, three runs)
- Pitching: Nico DiGrazio (win 7-0, six innings, six hits, three runs, three earned, three walks, three strikeouts)
- Washington had 19 hits, drew seven walks and had one get on by a hit by pitch while leaving 10 on base. 
- The Shoremen made one error in the game, leading to two unearned runs for the Mules.

Muhlenberg (14-14, 4-5 CC) 3 Washington College (18-12, 4-5 CC) (Game 2)

How It Happened
- Muhlenberg scored a single run in the top of the third, fourth and fifth innings to take a 3-0 lead.
- The Shoremen got their lone run in the last of the seventh on a Brady Wozniak sacrifice fly to right-center that scored Alex Dardaris to trim the lead to two runs.
- WC had runners on second and third with two outs in the bottom of the eighth and ninth, but could not score with a fly out to right by Everitt ending the second contest.

For The Shoremen (18-12, 4-5 CC)
- Hitting: Dardaris (3-for-3, run), Turner (2-for-4), O'Connor (1-for-3, walk)
- Pitching: Connor McCloskey (loss 3-3, six innings, nine hits, three runs, two earned, one walk, three strikeouts)
- Washington had seven hits, worked out two walks and had one get on by a hit by pitch while leaving nine on base. 
- The Shoremen made two errors in the game, leading to one unearned run for the Mules.
