Shorewomen Softball Split With Mules

Chestertown, MD– Washington College Softball split with the Mules of Muhlenberg after claiming game one in extra innings.  

Game 1: Washington College 5 Muhlenberg 4 ( 8 innings ) 

How It Happened  

  • The Shorewomen scored first in the bottom of the second. Julia Weglarz walked and then moved to second on a Jenna Harper sacrifice bunt. Nevaeh Unzueta doubled to center field with two outs left to send Weglarz home and put the Shorewomen up, 1-0.  
  • Muhlenberg was able to score three runs in the top of the third inning to take the lead over the Shorewomen, 3-1.  
  • Lilly Wenzel singled to lead off the bottom of the fourth inning. Weglarz singled as the next batter up for the Shorewomen. Weglarz was able to advance to third on an error by the center fielder that also sent Wenzel home. Harper sacrifice flied to left field to tie the game and send Weglarz home, 3-3.  
  • In the bottom of the fourth, Nevaeh Unzueta doubled to center field. Shannon Rosche singled as the next batter up for the Shorewomen, moving Unzueta to third. She was batted in by Mia Mavoides who singled through the right side. The Shorewomen were up, 4-3.  
  • Muhlenberg scored one run in the top of the seventh and kept the Shorewomen scoreless as they forced an eighth inning.  
  • The Shorewomen defense recorded three straight outs giving the offense an opportunity to take the game. They did just that as Wenzel started on second and was moved to third by Weglarz who laid down a sacrifice bunt. Harper singled to a gap in the center of the infield to win the game and put the Shorewomen up 5-4. 

For the Shorewomen ( 8-20, 4-5 CC )  
Batting: Nevaeh Unzueta ( 3 hits, 3 doubles, 1 RBI ), Jenna Harper ( 1 hit, 2 RBI ) 
Pitching: Anna Hutchison ( 8 innings pitched, 3 strikeouts, win ) 

Game 2: Washington College 4 Muhlenberg 5 

How It Happened  

  • The Shorewomen were down 3-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth. Shannon Rosche singled to left field and a sacrifice bunt by Chloe Trefz moved her to second. Lilly Cook singled up the left side next to put two batters on base for Lilly Wenzel. For the tying runs, Wenzel homers for the fourth time this season to center field to tie the score, 3-3.  
  • The Mules scored two runs in the top of the sixth to go up, 5-3 over the Shorewomen.  
  • Trefz singled in the bottom of the seventh and was able to advance to second on a wild pitch to put her in scoring position, but she was left on base as Muhlenberg recorded the final out and took game two, 5-3.  

For the Shorewomen ( 9-21, 4-6 CC )  
Batting: Lilly Wenzel ( 1 hit, 1 home run, 3 RBI ) 
Pitching: Gen Kozub ( 6.0 innings pitched, 1 strikeout)

The Shorewomen will travel to Collegeville, PA tomorrow, April 19th, to take on Ursinus College at 1 and 3 PM.
