Shoremen Baseball Fall To The Fords

Haverford, PA- The Washington College Baseball Team drops both games at Haverford in seven innings. Chase Ruppel earns a third of Shoremen's runs in game one hitting three over the fence in game one. 

Game 1: Washington College 9 Haverford 19 ( 7 innings ) 

How It Happened 

  • Reese Hirsh doubled to left center to lead off for the Shoremen in the top of the first inning. Back-to-back home runs by Zach Stolze and Chase Ruppel put the Shoremen up 3-0 early.  
  • Haverford had an answer, scoring five runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead, 5-3.  
  • The Shoremen trailed, 8-3 heading into the top of the third inning. Ruppel hit his second homer to left field to put another run up on the board for the Shoremen, 8-4.  
  • It was 11-4 heading into the top of the fourth. Ty Everitt singled to start the inning off for the Shoremen. He was batted in by Hirsh who singled to right field to send Everitt home. The Shoremen trailed, 11-5.  
  • The Shoremen scored again in the top of the fifth. Ruppel hit his third home run of the game to left field, putting the Shoremen within five, 11-6.  
  • Matt O'Connor singled through the right side to get the offense started for the Shoremen in the top of the sixth. Hirsh doubled to centerfield to send him home. In the next at bat, Will Turner singled to send Hirsh home and advanced on the throw to put him on second for the next batter up, Stolze. Stolze singled allowing Turner to score, the Shoremen still trailed 15-9.  
  • Those would be the last runs the Shoremen scored as Haverford was able to put four more runs on the board and took the game in the seventh inning, 19-9. 

For The Shoremen (18-16, 4-9 CC ) 
Batting: Chase Ruppel ( 3 hits, 3 home runs, 3 RBI ), Reese Hirsh ( 3 hits, 2 doubles, 2 RBI ) 
Pitching: Nico DiGrazio ( 2.0 innings pitched, 1 strikeout, loss ) 

Game 2: Washington College 2 Haverford 12 ( 7 innings ) 

How It Happened 

  • The Shoremen were down 6-0 heading into the top of the third. Matt O'Connor led off with a single to right field. A ground out and a fly out advanced him to third. Zach Stolze homered to right field sending him and O'Connor home and the Shoremen were on the board, 6-2.  
  • The Fords scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth and four in the bottom of the fifth to go up 12-2 over the Shoremen. The Shoremen had no answer as they dropped game two in seven innings.  

For The Shoremen (18-17, 4-10 CC ) 
Batting: Zach Stolze ( 1 hit, 1 home run, 2 RBI ) 
Pitching: Connor McCloskey ( 4.0 innings pitched, loss )

The Shoremen are back at home on Tuesday, April 22nd, taking on Johns Hopkins in game one of their conference series at 3:30 PM.
