Shoremen Prevail over Pride, 18-17

Will Turner earns 100th career hit with first inning home run

Chestertown, MD- The Washington College Baseball Team faced Widener in their final non-conference matchup of the season. Chase Ruppel set a new program record for home runs in a season with 10. Drew Kinsey tied the program record for career home runs with 20.

How It Happened 

  • The Shoremen led off the game with two home runs. Reese Hirsh homered to right field followed by Will Turner who homered to left and recorded his 100th career hit. Zach Stolze doubled to right center and Drew Kinsey reached base on an error by Widener's third baseman. With one out, Ty Everitt doubled to left center sending Stolze and Kinsey home, putting the Shoremen up, 4-0. Scooter SanFilippo and Brady Wozniak each earned an RBI double to left field as the Shoremen ended the inning up six.  
  • Widener came within one run of the Shoremen in the bottom of the second, 6-5.  
  • Stolze homered to left center field in the top of the fourth inning earning two RBI as he batted in Nick Miller who was walked to start off the inning. The Shoremen led, 8-5.  
  • Widener took the lead in the bottom of the fourth, earning four runs, 9-8.  
  • The Shoremen scored four runs off four hits in the top of the seventh to reclaim the lead, 12-11. SanFilippo singled to shortstop with two Shoremen on base, he sent Kinsey home. Nick Miller doubled to left field to send Everitt home. The next batter, Hirsh, singled through the left side sending the remaining two runners in for the Shoremen. 
  • Widener scored two runs in the bottom of the same inning to go up, 13-12.  
  • Two record breaking home runs started the top of the eighth inning for the Shoremen as Chase Ruppel hit a two-run homer to left center to put the Shoremen up, 14-13. With this home run, Ruppel set the program record for home runs in a season with 10. Kinsey followed with a home run of his own to left center field. With this home run, he tied the program's career home run total with 20. Wozniak and Hirsh each batted in another batter for the Shoremen, Wozniak's off a double and Hirsh's with a single. The Shoremen led 18-13.  
  • Widener scored four more runs to move the score to 18-17 before Nico DiGrazio recorded the third strikeout of the inning to end the game with a Shoremen win.
