Shoremen and Red Devils Each Win One in CC Twinbill

Washington Coasts to 11-1 Win in Opener and Dickinson Takes Game Two, 7-4

Carlisle, Pa. - The Washington College baseball team went 1-1 on Saturday in a Centennial Conference doubleheader at Dickinson at MacPhail Field. The Shoremen cruised to an 11-1 win in the opener before the Red Devils salvaged a split in the nightcap, 7-4. The Shoremen are 17-10 overall and 3-3 in the Centennial, while the Red Devils 10-13 and 1-5 respectively.

How It Happened
- The Shoremen scored first in the top of the fifth inning. Zach Stolze singled to right field to start the inning off. Reese Hirsh doubled to right center to send Stolze home. Scooter SanFilippo singled to right field sending Hirsh to third. Brady Wozniak sacrifice flied to center field sending Hirsh home. The Shoremen led, 2-0.
- Washington scored twice more in the top of the sixth. Ty Everitt and Will Turner each singled to put themselves on base followed by a Drew Kinsey walk to load the bases for Chase Ruppel. Ruppel grounded into a double play, but still scored Everitt to put the Shoremen up, 3-0. Stolze singled to right field allowing Turner to score and the fourth run scored for the Shoremen.
- The road team opened it up in the top of the seventh with five runs. Turner recorded an RBI sending SanFilippo home who doubled to right field to open up the inning. Ruppel doubled to left field two batters later sending three runs in for the Shoremen. Stolze batted the final run in for the Shoremen in the inning with a single to left field. The Shoremen were up, 9-0.
Dickinson scored one run in the bottom of the seventh.
- Two final runs were scored for the Shoremen in the top of the ninth inning. The bases were loaded as Dickinson walked SanFilippo, scoring one run for the Shoremen. The pitcher then hit the next batter up, Wozniak, to send the final run of the game in for the Shoremen. They held Dickinson to one hit in the bottom of the ninth and took game one, 11-1.

How It Happened
- After giving up a run in the bottom of the first inning, the Shoremen tied it up in the top of the second on one out double to left-center by SanFilippo that scored Stolze, 1-1.
- The Red Devils retook the lead in the bottom of the second, 2-1, before the Shoremen took their first lead of the game, 3-2, in the fourth on a two-run homer to right-center by Alex Dardaris for his first career longball that also scored Stolze.
- Kinsey socked a leadoff homer to left in the top of the fifth to make it a 4-2 gave for WC.
- Dickinson would take the lead for good with a three-run last of the fifth, 5-4.
- In the bottom of the eighth, the Red Devils tacked on two insurance runs to provide the final margin.
