Chestertown, MD - The Washington College Men's Soccer team fell in their opening game of the Athey Cup to Roanoke College, 2-1.

How It Happened
- The Shoremen had their first look at the goal nearly 12 minutes into the first half as Tyler Davidson served up a corner kick to Sixten Nowlan inside the box. Nowlan's header was saved by Roanoke's goalie.
- Kevin Martinez took his first shot as a Shoremen 37 minutes into the first half, again saved by the Maroon's goalie.
- Roanoke held the lead heading into halftime, 2-0.
- Nowlan and Davidson each had an attempt on goal, the first was caught in the air as Nowlan went head-to-head with the Maroon goalie in the air, and the second was blocked by a Roanoke defender.
- With 23 minutes remaining, Tshazi Kamau served up a free kick to Jordan Waiganjo who attempted a header shot but left it just wide right of the goal.
- With a little under 20 minutes left in the half, Tucker Sprano found Tyler Davidson in open space and Davidson was finally able to get one past the goal line as his shot bounced off the left post into the back of the net.
- Three minutes later the Shoremen had the opportunity to tie as Kamau found Chris Glendenning in front of the box off another free kick. Glendenning's header attempt was high over the top of the net.
