Late Penalty Stroke Goal Completes Comeback as Shorewomen Ground Ospreys, 3-2

MaryCate Anson’s Converts Penalty Stroke with 1:43 Left in the Fourth

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Senior midfielder MaryCate Anson (Newark, Del./Newark Charter) snapped a 2-2 tie with 1:43 to go on a penalty stroke goal to give host Washington College a 3-2 comeback win over visiting Stockton on Wednesday evening on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Shorewomen, who scored twice in the final 4:08 to rally from a 2-1 deficit, are now 2-4 on the season, while the Ospreys are now 3-4.

How It Happened
- The Ospreys struck 77 seconds into the first quarter for the game's opening goal on a shot from the top of circle.
- Washington would tie it just 2:31 later as MaryCate Anson sliced through the Stockton defense and put one in from the left side from about 10 yards out into the right side of the cage. The two teams were tied at 1-1 after 15 minutes.
- The Shorewomen nearly took the lead with 4:18 remaining before halftime on an Erin Houlihan redirected shot, but an Osprey defender was there at the right post to knock it down for a defensive save.
- Stockton would retake the lead with 1:12 to go in the second quarter on a shot from the top of the circle into the left side.
- In the third stanza, Washington had all three shots on goal and two penalty corners, but could not tie the game as the road team took a 2-1 lead into the fourth.
- The Shorewomen nearly tied it with 12:58 left in the game on a shot by Emma Campbell, but it was another defensive save for Stockton.
- Washington would finally tie it with 4:08 to go off of a penalty corner as Kendal Thomson's pass found Tara Radebaugh at the top of the circle and Radebaugh blasted it into the lower left corner just inside the post to level it at 2-2.
- The sequence toward to the stroke started off of a corner as Thomson found Radebaugh, whose shot was blocked. Samantha McMahon got the rebound and the shot was stopped illegally by the Ospreys and the Shorewomen were award a penalty stroke. Anson slipped the stroke past the left foot of the Stockton keep to make it 3-2 with 1:43 to go.
- Stockton got one final chance with a second to go, but it was saved by Charlotte Schurman and the clock ran out.

- Washington had 12 shots and seven penalty corners in the contest.

Notes
- It was MaryCate Anson's second career two-goal game, both have come against Stockton with the other one coming last season in a 4-2 road win.
