Shorewomen Outlasted by Pride in Five Sets

Diehl and Lynch Tally Double-Doubles for Washington

CHESTER, Pa. – Host Widener topped visiting Washington College, 3-2 (22-25, 16-25, 25-17, 30-28, 15-11), on Thursday night in a non-conference volleyball match at Schwartz Center. The Pride goes to 2-13 on the year, while the Shorewomen are now 9-4.

How it Happened

The first set is tied up 19-19 before Izzy Diehl recorded three kills to put the Shorewomen up 24-21. The set point is won for Washington on a service error by Widener, giving the Shorewomen the first set win.
- In the second set, WC led 17-15 before going on an 8-1 set closing run. Leading 20-16, the Shorwomen won five straight points to clinch the second with an ace by Alexis Stubbs and an error from Widener accounting for the final two points.
- Widener had an 8-6 lead in the third set before going on an 8-3 run to take a 16-9 lead on its way to an eight-point win in the third before the home side secured the set with a kill.
- Down 21-17 in the fourth set, the Shorewomen won seven of the next 10 points to tie it at 24-24. The set continued to go back-and-forth with the Pride winning the last three points to take the fourth by two. Widener forced the fifth set following a Washington attack error. Diehl totaled six kills in the fourth set.
- Lyndsey Wessel had four kills in the fifth set, but it was not enough as Widener scored five straight points to jump out to a 5-1 lead and led the remainder of the fifth. Wessel's last kill cut the Pride's lead to 13-11, but the hosts scored the final two points and clinched the match on an assisted block.

- Diehl (match-high 17 kills and 10 digs), Gianna Folke (12 kills), Wessel (11 kills), Kaysie Lynch (20 assists and 11 digs), Stubbs (26 assists, three aces and career-best five blocks), Emma Shaner (six blocks)
- The Shorewomen hit .178 with five aces and nine blocks in the contest.
