Shoremen Baseball Open Up Their Season With A 15-2 Win Over The Gators

Severn, MD- The Washington College baseball team took a lead over Notre Dame of MD early and never relinquished. The Shoremen scored 15 runs off 17 hits to take down the Gators in their first competition of the season.

How It Happened 

  • Drew Kinsey started the season off for the Shoremen with a double to right field. He stole third and then scored on an error by the catcher to go up early 1-0 over Notre Dame of MD.  
  • The Shoremen scored four more times in the first inning. Chase Ruppel scored after a single to the shortstop put him on base and a bases loaded walk sent him home. Reese Hirsh scored after he singled to the left field and then was batted in by Ty EverittAlex Dardaris scored after he singled to the left field and was batted in by Matt Lewis who also sent Brett Connolly home after he was walked. The Shoremen led, 5-0.  
  • In the top of the second, Kinsey singled to right field and stole second to put him in scoring position as Ruppel tripled to the left field adding another run for the Shoremen. Hirsh lined out to the left fielder allowing Ruppel to advance home and the Shoremen extended their lead to 7-0.  
  • Washington scored five more runs in the top of the third to go up 12-0 over Notre Dame of MD.  
  • The Gators scored their first run in the bottom of the fifth. The Shoremen still held a 13-1 lead.  
  • Brady Thompson pinch hit in the top of the sixth inning and reached base on a fielder's choice. He was batted in after Pete Kokinis also reached base on a fielder's choice. The next at bat, Kinsey singled to center field allowing Brady Wozniak to score after he singled two at bats earlier.  
  • Notre Dame of MD scored the final run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Neither side scored in the final inning and the Shoremen took the win, 15-2.

The Shoremen will host Widener in a neutral site doubleheader on Saturday, February 28th in Colombia, MD. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 3 PM.
