Columbia, MD- The Washington College baseball team split with the Pride of Widener, taking the first game 3-1 and dropping the second, 11-6.
Game 1: Washington College 3 Widener 1
How It Happened
- Brett Connolly singled to the shortstop in the bottom of the second inning and then stole second to earn his first two bases of the game. Ty Everitt tripled to right center field allowing Connolly to score and putting him in prime scoring position for the next batter, Brady Wozniak. Wozniak got Everitt home on a sacrifice fly to center field. Pete Kokinis followed the first two Shoremen runs with a home run to right field putting the Shoremen up 3-1 heading into the third.
- In the bottom of the third, Reese Hirsh walked and was then advanced by a Connolly single to right field, but the two were left on base.
- Everitt singled to centerfield in the middle of the bottom of the sixth to put him on base for the Shoremen. He stole second and advanced to third on a failed pick off attempt. He was in perfect scoring position but was left on base with a fly out to the left field being the final out for the Shoremen of the inning. The Shoremen collected three outs in the top of the seventh to secure the 3-1 win in game one over the Pride.

Game 2: Washington College 6 Widener 11
How It Happened
- Drew Kinsey was hit by a pitch in the first at bat of the game for the Shoremen. Ty Powell singled through the shortstop and third baseman to move Kinsey to second. Chase Ruppel singled to right field immediately after sending Kinsey home and moving Powell to third. Alex Dardaris, who grounded out to the second baseman, collected the RBI advancing Powell home and tying the score 2-2 at the end of the first.
- Widener scored three runs in the top of the second and two in the top of the fourth to go up 7-2 over the Shoremen.
- Widener led 9-2 heading into the bottom of the fourth. Dardaris was hit by a pitch and then stole second moving him into scoring position. A ground out moved him to third and Ty Everitt was able to bat him in putting the Shoremen down six, 9-3.
- In the bottom of the next inning, Ruppel homered to left centerfield, sending him and Powell home to decrease the Shoremen lead to three, 8-5.
- Everitt doubled right down the left field line to begin the bottom of the eighth. He was batted in by Matt Lewis who grounded out to the first baseman. The Shoremen still trailed heading into the final inning, 9-6.
- Widener scored twice in the top of the ninth and were able to take the game 11-6.
