Shoremen Take Down Northwestern In 10th Inning, 17-12

Ft. Pierce, FL- The Washington College baseball team took down Northwestern in ten innings, 17-12. Chase Ruppel hit a grand slam in the top of the 10th inning securing the Shormen lead, plating his 100th career RBI in the process.

How It Happened 

  • Northwestern earned the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning.  
  • Brady Wozniak singled to left field to begin the second inning. Tahir Parker batted him in with a sacrifice bunt. The score was tied, 1-1.  
  • The Shoremen took the lead in the top of the fourth inning. Ty Everitt got the hitting going with a single up the middle. Brett Connolly singled to first base advancing Everitt. Everitt scored as Wyatt Udhe was hit by a pitch followed by Drew Kinsey being walked and sending Connolly home. Three runs scored on an error by Northwestern's third baseman and Pete Kokinis stole home on the next play. The Shoremen ended the inning up, 7-1. 
  • Northwestern scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth, but still trailed, 7-4. 
  • Kokinis tripled to center field and sent Kinsey home after he reached base on an error by the shortstop. Kokinis also scored on another error by the shortstop. The Shoremen lead 9-4 in the top of the sixth.  
  • Northwestern tied it up, 9-9 in the bottom of the sixth. 
  • The Shoremen scored three runs in the top of the seventh. Everitt doubled to right field and was batted in by Wozniak who singled to the right. The Shoremen scored their last two runs unearned on errors by Northwestern's defense. They left the inning on top, 12-9. 
  • Once again, Northwestern matched the Shoremen score in the bottom of the seventh, 12-12.  
  • The score was stuck at 12-12 at the conclusion of nine innings. The Shoremen scored five runs off three hits in the top of the 10th. Chase Ruppel earned four RBI with a home run to center field. On the grand slam, Ruppel drove in his 100th career RBI and now sits at 102. Later in the inning, Matt Lewis reached base on an error by the shortstop. A double by Wozniak to center field sent him home and scored the last Shoremen run, 17-12. 
  • The Shoremen recorded three outs in the bottom of the 10th to take the game, 17-12.

Up Next: 
The Shoremen will travel to Ft. Pierce, FL to begin their Spring Break series. Their first game will be against Earlham at 10 AM followed by a game against Heidelberg at 1:30 PM.
