Shoremen Use Two-Out Rallies to Edge Green Terror, 11-10

Team Plates Eight of 11 Runs with Two Outs

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Host Washington College scored eight runs with two outs to slip past visiting McDaniel 11-10 on Tuesday afternoon in a Centennial Conference baseball game at Athey Baseball Park. The Shoremen improved to 14-10 on the campaign and 2-1 in the Centennial, while the Green Terror dropped to 18-7 and 1-2 respectively.

How It Happened
- After the Green Terror scored three runs in the top of the first inning, including a home run on the first pitch of the game, the Shoremen scored five times in the bottom of the first with five coming after two were away, taking advantage of a one out error by McDaniel. Trailing 3-2 with two outs, Pete Kokinis draw a bases loaded walk to score Alex Dardaris and level the game at 3-3. Ty Powell put Washington ahead for the rest of the game on a two-run single to through the left side to score both Reese Hirsh and Brady Wozniak. Drew Kinsey pushed the lead to 6-3 on a single to left to knock in Kokinis and the inning was capped on a Brett Connolly single to right that scored Powell. All five runs scored with two away were unearned due to the error.
- In the bottom of the second, Wozniak socked a two-out, two-run homer to right that also drove in Ty Everitt to extend the lead to 9-3.
- McDaniel got four back in the top of the fourth to cut it to 9-7 before Wozniak delivered another two-out run-scoring hit, this time a single to send in Dardaris to give WC a 10-7 edge after four.
- The Green Terror got single runs in the top of the fifth and sixth innings to reduce the lead to 10-9, but with one away in the bottom of the sixth, Wyatt Uhde reached on a bunt single to third. On the play, the throw got away and Uhde took the third and on the throw to try to get Uhde at third got away and Uhde was able to score to make it 11-9.
- In the top of the eighth, McDaniel got one across and had the go ahead run at the plate down 11-10, but a pair of flyouts from Elias Philiposian kept the lead for the home side.
- McDaniel got the go ahead run on first with two outs in the top of the ninth, but Philiposian got the final out on a fly out to shallow center to end the ballgame.

For The Shoremen (14-10, 2-1 CC)
- Hitting: Connolly (4-for-5, two RBI, run), Wozniak (2-for-4, three RBI, two runs, home run), Dardaris (2-for-4, two runs), Everitt (2-for-4, run)
- Pitching: Manny Aponte (win 3-0, two innings, zero hits, zero runs, zero walks, one strikeout), Philiposian (save 4, zero hits, zero runs, one walk, zero strikeouts)
- Washington had 14 hits, six walks and had two reach via hit by pitch, while leaving seven on base.
- The Shoremen made zero errors in the field.
