Chestertown, MD- The Washington College baseball team splits with Ithaca in their last contest before Spring Break. The two teams scored 57 runs combined in 13+ innings on the day. The Shoremen battled the sunset to take the second game in an official 4.5 innings win, 14-12.
Game 1: Washington College 14 Ithaca 18
How It Happened
- Ithaca went up 5-0 over the Shoremen in the top of the first inning.
- Brady Thompson began the bottom of the first with a double down the left field line. The Shoremen were able to load the bases as Alex Dardaris was up to bat. He earned an RBI sending Thompson home as he hit into a fielder's choice to put the Shoremen on the board. With bases still loaded, the Shoremen were walked and hit by a pitch to have two runs score. Pete Kokinis hit a single to right field allowing two Shoremen runs to score and tying the score, 5-5.
- In the bottom of the third inning, Ty Everitt doubled to right center field and then stole third to put him in prime scoring position for the next batter, Brady Wozniak. Wozniak answered the call with a single to right field that sent Everitt home and took the lead for the Shoremen, 6-5.
- Ithaca scored two runs in the top of the fourth to take the lead, 7-6.
- Drew Kinsey was hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the fourth. He stole second and advanced on a ground out. Chase Ruppel batted him in with a single to left field to tie the game, 7-7.
- The Bombers scored two runs in the top of the fourth to take the lead once again, 9-7.
- The bases were loaded again for the Shoremen with Kokinis up to bat in the bottom of the fifth. Kokinis grounded into a double play, but a runner scored putting the Shoremen within one, 9-8.
- In the bottom of the seventh, Brady Thompson was up to bat with two outs and bases loaded. Thompson hammered a double into centerfield, clearing the bases and taking the lead for the Shoremen, 11-9.
- Ithaca had the answer scoring nine runs in the top of the eighth to go up 18-11 over the Shoremen.
- The Shoremen scored twice in the bottom of the eighth and held Ithaca to zero runs in the top of the ninth to head into their final half inning down five, 18-13. The Shoremen scored one in the half inning but it was not enough as they fell in game one, 18-14.

How It Happened
- The Shoremen opened up game two with momentum, scoring 11 runs off of nine hits. Brady Thompson left the inning with two hits, one a double, and three RBI. Brady Wozniak also left the innings with two hits as the Shoremen nearly batted through the order twice,
- Ithaca was the next team to score as they earned four runs in the top of the third.
- Andrew Keenan was walked as the lead off batter in the bottom of the third inning. He was batted in by Wozniak as he doubled to left center field. Wozniak was able to advance to third on an error and was then batted in as the catcher threw out Ty Everitt at second who was caught stealing. The Shoremen still held the lead, 13-4.
- Ithaca scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning.
- Drew Kinsey swung at the first pitch of the bottom of the fourth, doubling to center field to lead off. He was advanced to third and then scored off a wild pitch to extend the Shoremen lead to 14-7.
- The Shoremen were fighting the sunset and were hustling to finish the top of the fifth game to make the game official. They did just that, but Ithaca did not go down without a fight, scoring five runs in the half inning to trail the Shoremen, 14-12.
- The game was called in the bottom of the fifth inning due to darkness. The game is official at that point and is a win for the Shoremen, 14-12

The Shoremen will travel to Ft. Pierce, FL to begin their Spring Break series. Their first game will be against Earlham at 10 AM followed by a game against Heidelberg at 1:30 PM.
