FORT PIERCE, Fla. – The Washington College baseball team opened up its Florida Trip with a 17-5 win over Earlham in eight innings at the Lawnwood Complex in the Shoremen's first game of their Spring Break Trip on Sunday.
The Shoremen were slated to play two games, but their second game against Heidelberg was suspended after six innings due to lightning and will resume on Friday morning prior to the two teams regularly scheduled game.
Washington College (4-4) 17 Earlham (4-3) 5 (8 Innings)
- Earlham scored the game's opening two runs to take a 2-0 lead after three innings.
- Washington with three in the top of the fourth to take the lead for good at 3-2.
- The Shoremen tacked on another run in the top of the fifth to lead 4-2.
- In the top half of the sixth, a three-run frame pushed the WC lead to 7-2.
- The Quakers would score three of the next four runs to reduce the deficit to 8-5 going after seven innings.
- WC would put the game away with a nine-run top of the eighth to provide the final margin.

Michael Lewis (win 1-0, seven innings, nine hits, four runs, four earned, zero walks, eight strikeouts)
- Washington had 17 hits, worked out five walks and had two get on via hit by pitch while leaving nine on base.
- The Shoremen did not commit an error in the field.
