Winter Haven, FL– Washington College Softball splits in their first day of competition down in Florida. Six different Shorewomen tallied RBI in the second game to take a comfortable win over Carroll, 11-7.
Game 1: Washington College 4 Albertus Magnus 15
How It Happened
- Albertus Magnus led 7-0 heading into the bottom of the third inning.
- The first hit for the Shorewomen came in the bottom of that inning, Becca Foulk singled over the head of the third baseman, she then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Jenna Harper was walked to earn her first base of the day. Lilly Wenzel doubled to short centerfield on a full count to send both runners home and put the Shorewomen on the board, 7-2.
- Anna Hutchinson captured the first hit of the fourth for the Shorewomen with a single to centerfield. She advanced Julia Weglarz to second, who walked two batters before. Weglarz advanced to third on an error by the second baseman and took home the next pitch on another error by the second baseman. The Shorewomen still trailed, 8-3.
- Albertus Magnus scored one in the top of the fifth. The Shorewomen matched that run with one of their own. Weglarz earned an RBI as she hit into a fielder's choice to send Harper home who walked as the lead off batter. The Shorewomen were down five, 9-4.
- Albertus Magnus scored two runs in the top of the sixth and four in the top of the seventh to go up 15-4 over the Shorewomen. The Shorewomen had no answer as they dropped their first game of the day.

Game 2: Washington College 11 Caroll 7
How It Happened
- Jenna Harper walked to begin the first inning of game two. She advanced on a walk and a fly out to put her on third as Julia Weglarz was up to bat. Weglarz got on base due to an error and Harper advanced home. The Shorewomen led early, 1-0.
- Emma Trainer walked as the lead off batter in the top of the second. Anna McCabe then singled to right center field and advanced to second on the throw, sending Trainer to third. Harper reached first on an error by the third baseman and sent Trainer home. Gracelyn Goforth singled to the shortstop and sent McCabe in with Harper coming home the next at bat as Cece Johnston singled to shortstop. A Julia Weglarz single to centerfield sent Goforth home, and the Shorewomen were up 5-0 at the end of the second.
- The bases were loaded with one out and Carroll had earned two runs until Harper made an unassisted double play, catching a live drive and tagging first to get the Shorewomen out of the inning still on top, 5-2.
- Carroll scored four in the bottom of the third to go up 6-5 on the Shorewomen. The Shorewomen had the answer in the top of the fifth where they scored three runs off four hits. Claire Barnes and Grace Allen each left the inning with an RBI. The Shorewomen took the lead, 8-5.
- Caroll scored one in the bottom of the fifth, Washington answered with one in the top of the sixth, 9-7.
- In the top of the seventh, Johnston singled to right field with two outs and two on base, to send home McCabe and Gorforth to put the Shorewomen up, 11-7 heading into the final half inning.
- The Shorewomen got an easy three outs holding Carroll to zero runs as they took the game, 11-7.
