Shoremen Outslug Barons, 14-10

Kokinis Tallies Three Hits and Three Runs and DiMauro Scores Three Times and Plates Three

FORT PIERCE, Fla. – Washington College used an eight-run top of the fourth inning to take the lead for good in a 14-10 win over Franciscan in a non-conference baseball contest on Monday afternoon at the Lawnwood Complex. The Shoremen improve to 5-4 with the win, while the Barons drop to 0-3.

How It Happened
- Franciscan scored a pair of runs in each of the first two innings to take a 4-0 lead after two.
- Washington would get two of its own in the top of the third to cut the lead to 4-2. Pete Kokinis scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Timmons with nobody out and Dino DiMauro came home on an RBI groundout with one away by Ty Powell.
- The Shoremen took the lead for good in the top of the fourth with an eight-run outburst, scoring seven times with two away. Powell worked out a bases loaded walk with two outs to score Kokinis to put Washington ahead 5-4 and two batters later with a 6-4 lead, Chase Ruppel socked a bases clearing double to score Timmons, Powell and Drew Kinsey to give WC a five-run cushion. Ruppel scored the final run of the frame on a base hit by Ryan Connolly.
- DiMauro would inflict more two out damage on the Barons in the top of the fifth with a two-run single to plate Brady Wozniak and Kokinis.
- The Barons would score three times in the last of the fifth and twice in the sixth to cut the Washington lead to 12-9.
- After each team scored in the seventh, the Barons had the tying run at the plate with one out in the bottom of the eighth, but Elias Philiposian got back-to-back groundouts to end the threat.
- WC got the final run in the top of the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Powell that plated DiMauro.

For The Shoremen (5-4)
- Hitting: Kokinis (3-for-3, three runs), DiMauro (2-for-2, three runs, three RBI), Ruppel (2-for-4, three RBI, two runs), Powell (three RBI, two walks), Connolly (2-for-5, RBI)
- Pitching: Justin Shipley (win 1-0, five innings, six hits, seven runs, four earned, one walk, four strikeouts), Elias Philiposian (save 2, 1 2/3 innings, zero hits, zero runs, zero walks, zero strikeouts)
- Washington had 12 hits, drew six walks and had four get on via hit by pitch while leaving six on base.
- The Shoremen had five errors in the game, leading to six unearned runs for Franciscan.
