Shoremen Lock Up Spot in Centennial Tournament with First Game Win at Bullets

Washington Lands Third Seed and Will Visit Two Seed McDaniel on Thursday with DH Split

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Washington College baseball team clinched a spot in the 2026 Centennial Conference Tournament on Sunday afternoon at Gettysburg in a Centennial doubleheader with its 6-1 game one victory. In game two, the Bullets downed the Shoremen 8-5 to earn a split of the twinbill in the regular season finale for both teams. The Shoremen are 22-18 overall and 10-8 in the Centennial, while the Bullets go to 26-12 and 9-9 respectively.

The Shoremen, who will be the tournament's third seed, will be competing in their fourth Centennial Conference Tournament, previously reaching the conference tournament in 2010, 2012 and 2022.

How It Happened
- The Shoremen scored the game's opening run in the top of the first inning on a one out bases loaded walk to Alex Dardaris to plate Brett Connolly before the Bullets answered in the last of the first on a one out fielding error to even the game at 1-1.
- Chase Ruppel came home on a throwing error by Gettysburg with one away to put WC back ahead, 2-1, in the top of the third.
- Two innings later, Connolly scored on a two out wild pitch to push the Shoremen's lead to 3-1.
- Connolly scored his third run of the game on a one out solo home run to right field to push Washington's advantage to 4-1. On the homer, Connolly set the WC program mark for hits in a single season with 63, breaking the mark of 62 set by Logan Yi '24 in 2024.
- In the last of the eighth, Gettysburg got the tying run to the plate with one out, but a strikeout and a groundout ended the rally.
- WC pushed its lead to 6-1 with two in the top of the ninth as Reese Hirsh chased home Connolly on a sacrifice fly with nobody out and the next hitter Dardaris singled home Ruppel on a base hit to center with one away.
- In the bottom of the ninth, Elias Philiposian sealed the victory and a spot in the conference tournament with a strikeout.

For The Shoremen (22-17, 10-7 CC)
- Hitting: Connolly (4-for-4, four runs, home run, RBI), Ruppel (3-for-4, two runs, RBI), Reese Hirsh (2-for-3, RBI), Dardaris (two RBI)
- Pitching: Michael Lewis (win 5-1, seven innings, four hits, one run, one earned, one walk, career-best 10 strikeouts), Philiposian (save 7, two innings, one hit, zero runs, zero walks, three strikeouts)
- Washington had 12 hits, worked out four walks and had one reach via hit by pitch, while leaving 10 on base.
- The Shoremen made one error in the game, leading unearned runs for the Bullets.

How It Happened
- Washington tallied a two out run in the top of the first on a Wyatt Uhde single to left to score Drew Kinsey.
- Gettysburg answered with three runs in the bottom of the first before a hitter was retired to take a 3-1 lead after one.
- With one out in the top of the second, Kinsey socked a two-run homer to left to score Tahir Parker and even the game at 3-3 and the next hitter Connolly homered to right to give the Shoremen a 4-3 edge.
- The Shoremen scored a two-out run in the top of the fifth when Ty Everitt doubled to left to drive in Uhde to make it 5-3.
- In the last of the fifth, the Bullets scored three times to take a 6-5 lead. A double with nobody out cut it to 5-4 and an RBI groundout to second tied it at 5-5. With one out, another RBI groundout, this one to first put the home side ahead 6-5.
- Two frames later, a one-out two-run homer to right by Gettysburg gave the Bullets a 8-5 lead.
- Washington got the tying run to the dish in the top of the eighth with nobody out, but a double play and pop out kept the Bullets lead at three runs.
- In the ninth, the Shoremen got the leadoff runner on, but the next three were retired to end the game.

For The Shoremen (22-18, 10-8 CC)
- Hitting: Kinsey (3-for-4, two runs, two RBI, home run), Uhde (2-for-5, double, RBI, run), Parker (2-for-3, run)
- Pitching: Matt Corda (loss 4-1, three innings)
- Washington had 10 hits, tallied four walks and had one get on via hit by pitch, while leaving nine on base.
- The Shoremen made three errors in the game, leading to two Bullet runs.
