LANCASTER, Pa. – Sophomore
Sofia Sperandei (Pyla, Cyprus/King Richard School) has been named the Centennial Conference Player of the Week in women's tennis for the week of March 30-April 5 by the conference office. This is the first time the sophomore has been picked for the conference's weekly award.
Sperandei went 2-0 in both singles and doubles in a 2-0 week for the Shorewomen. On Thursday in a 4-3 win over Salisbury, the sophomore clinched the match at No. 5 singles in come-from-behind 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over
Evelyn Whiteside. Sperandei won the final two games of the third set to break a 4-4 tie. On Saturday in a 7-0 win over Muhlenberg, she slid up to the third spot and swept
Kety Gaidamashvili by consecutive scores of 6-2. In doubles, Sperandei teamed up with
Jess Wilde against Salisbury and won 6-2 at third doubles against the Sea Gulls'
Ridgley Lake and
Katherine Raab and versus Muhlenberg was joined by
Samy Fawzi Sanchez at the third spot and won 6-0 versus the Mules'
Alexandra Roehl and
Ella Pomeranz.
This is the third time this season a member of Shorewomen Tennis has secured the conference's weekly award as
Juanita Arbelaez captured it on February 17 and
Gaby Coutts was the recipient on March 3.
