Shorewomen Net Sweep over Gators in Season Lidlifter, 3-0

Diehl Hands Out 13 Kills in Three-Set Win

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Washington College volleyball team opened its season with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-11, 25-23) win at Notre Dame (Md.) on Tuesday night at the Marion Burt Knott Sports Complex in the season opener for both teams in a non-conference volleyball match.

How It Happened
- The Shorewomen start off strong with an ace from Alexis Stubbs putting them in the lead for the rest of the first set, 2-1, and this play is followed by a kill by Izzy Diehl.
- Stubbs continued with assists the next one being to Lyndsey Wessel and followed by another to Bethany Haughton to help Washington continue to maintain the lead in the first set.  
- Diehl would get two more kills in the first set making her mark. The first set was closed off with a kill by Kaysie Lynch as the Shorewomen won the first set 25-19. 
- The second starts off back and forth with the Shorewomen going toe to toe with the host Gators. The Shorewomen pick up the pace and got eight consecutive points to lead 11-4. This included two kills, one by Emma Shaner and the other by Diehl. This streak also consisted of three aces by Grace Salveron. 
- Washington would go off on yet another run, this one being 12-1, with three kills by Diehl, bringing the score in the second set to 23-8. Stubbs got three aces in a row for the Shorwomen to continue their lead. The second set concludes with a kill Stubbs by Emily Hartnett leaving the score at 25-11. 
- The third set was a back-and-forth battle between WC and Notre Dame. Shaner and Gianna Folke got two kills each and Diehl added three finishers to give the visitors an 11-9 lead.  
- Shaner gave the Shorewomen a 21-20 lead following two kills. The match ended on a hitting error by the home side as WC prevailed 25-23.

- Diehl (13 kills and two blocks), Stubbs (11 assists and four aces), Lynch (12 assists), Lucy Jones (10 digs), Shaner (three blocks)
