Shorewomen Field Hockey Downed By Owls, 2-0

Chestertown, MD - The Washington College Shorewomen battled Bryn Mawr on Wednesday evening in a non-conference field hockey game, creating several offensive opportunities throughout the contest. Goalkeeper Charlotte Schurman made nine saves, including multiple stops during Bryn Mawr's offensive pressure, while the Shorewomen earned six penalty corners and continued to generate chances throughout the second half.

How it Happened:
  • Washington College battled through the opening quarter as Schurman made a save in the eighth minute after the Shorewomen's defense blocked the first Bryn Mawr shot. The Shorewomen continued to compete defensively before Bryn Mawr found the opening goal with 3:28 remaining in the quarter.
  • The Shorewomen came out with offensive pressure in the second quarter, earning back-to-back penalty corners. Natalie Watkinson and Tara Radebaugh each recorded shots that were blocked as Washington College looked to equalize. Schurman kept the Shorewomen within one with four saves during the quarter.
  • Washington College continued to battle in the third quarter as Schurman made two early saves. Bryn Mawr eventually added a second goal with 3:43 remaining in the quarter, but the Shorewomen continued to fight and earned another late penalty corner.
  • The Shorewomen came out aggressively in the fourth quarter, earning three penalty corners in the first 12 minutes. Tyler Rice and Reece Forrey each had shots blocked, while Lindsey Leone and Erin Houlihan also recorded shots for Washington College.
  • Washington College continued to pressure the Bryn Mawr defense late in the game, while the Shorewomen's defense held the Owls without another goal over the final 15 minutes. Despite several offensive opportunities for the Shorewomen, Bryn Mawr held on for the 2-0 victory.
