Shorewomen Sweep Away Gophers

Team Hits .278 in Three-Set Win

TOWSON, Md. – Visiting Washington College hit .278 as a team on its way to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-11) win over host Goucher at the Decker Sports & Recreation Center on Wednesday night in a non-conference volleyball match. The Shorewomen improve to 9-3 on the year, while the Gophers go to 6-7.

How it Happened

The Shorewomen jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first set and never trailed the remainder of the first following a Lyndsey Wessel kill. Leading 20-15, Washington won three straight points with a kill by Wessel, an ace by Emily Harnett and an Izzy Diehl finisher. Diehl finished the first set win with a kill.
- The second set saw Goucher lead 4-3 before Washington rolled off seven straight points to lead 10-4 on a Diehl kill, who had three of her eight finishers in the second during the run. Down 22-13, the Gophers won four of five to cut the lead to 23-17, but the Shorewomen won two of the last three points to win by seven with set point by Wessel on a kill.
- In the third set Washington came out strong by scoring the first six points to lead 6-0 with Alexis Stubbs netting two aces and Gianna Folke recording two kills. Nora Biddle would tally back-to-bac aces to give the Shorewomen a 12-4 lead. Addison Carr would finish the match with a pair of kills for WC's final two points to capture the third set by 14 and the match in three.

For The Shorewomen (9-3)
- Diehl (16 kills and four blocks), Wessel (seven kills, hit .583 and four rejections), Stubbs (19 assists and four aces), Hartnett (nine digs)
- Washington hit .278 as a team with nine aces and seven blocks in the win.

The Shorewomen are back it tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. when it visits Widener for a non-conference match.
