Box Score WC Hits .303 in Victory
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Freshman outside hitter
Jenny Lee (Wilmington, DE/Mount Pleasant) had a
match-best 11 kills, hit .450 for the match and netted a match
topping five service aces as host Washington College swept visiting
Bryn Mawr, 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-14) in Centennial Conference
volleyball action on Wednesday evening at the Cain Athletic Center
in the home finale. The Shorewomen improve to 11-14 overall and 1-8
in the Centennial, while the Owls drop to 8-16 and 0-10
respectively.
The Shorewomen never trailed in the first set and
took a double-digit lead at 13-3 following a service ace by Lee.
Washington closed out the set on a kill by Lee. In the second set,
Washington snapped a 6-6 tie with a 12-3 spurt to grab an 18-9
lead. A Lee kill closed out the second set and gave the hosts a 2-0
lead. The Owls jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the third set, but
Washington responded with a 15-3 run to take a 16-7 lead. The match
ended on a service error by Bryn Mawr.
For Washington, senior setter Caitlin Ward
(Wantagh, NY/Holy Trinity) led all players with 32
assists, while junior libero Traci Daelemans (Tracys
Landing, MD/Southern) had a team-best nine digs in the
win. Sophomore outside hitter Lauren Feeny (Upper Darby,
PA/Villa Maria Academy) hit .571 on the night and had nine
kills. The Shorewomen, who had all 14 players see action in the
match, hit .303 in the win.
For Bryn Mawr, Emily
Takeuchi-Miller had 13 assists to lead the Owls and just
missed a double-double with nine digs. Katie
Solook had a match-best 10 digs, while Mikecia
Witherspoon tallied eight kills to lead the visitors.
The victory snapped a 19-match conference losing
streak for the Shorewomen. Their last conference win was a 3-0
victory over Bryn Mawr on October 24, 2007.
Washington concludes its season on Saturday,
October 31 with a 1:00 p.m. match at Dickinson in Centennial
Conference action.
