Box Score Nicholoff Becomes WC's All-Time Saves

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Jenn Motylinski
scored the game's only goal with 1:43 seconds remaining to give
visiting 13th-ranked Johns Hopkins a 1-0 Centennial Conference
field hockey win over host Washington College tonight on Kibler
Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Blue Jays improved to 9-2
overall and 4-1 in conference play with the win, while the
Shorewomen fell to 6-6 and 3-2. Senior goalkeeper Elena
Nicholoff (Tunkhannock, PA/Lackawanna Trail) became
Washington's all-time leader in career saves in the loss.
Johns Hopkins held a 7-3 advantage in a scoreless
first half. Nicholoff made her school record-breaking 523rd career
save with 9:51 remaining in the period. She finished with six in
the game to up her career total to 526.
Motylinski's goal came when she tipped in a blast
from outside the circle delivered by Liane
Tellier. Neither team got off a shot following the
game-winner.
Sophia Tieu made a pair of saves
in the win for Hopkins, who finished with a 13-6 advantage in shots
and an 8-4 edge in penalty corners. Sophomore defender
Brittany Palasik (Severna Park, MD/Archbishop
Spalding) made a defensive save to aid Nicholoff's
efforts.
The Shorewomen's school record for career saves was
previously held by All-American Toby (Wilmet) Wiedenmayer
'01, who finished her career with 522. Wiedenmayer is the
younger sister of current Washington College head field hockey
coach Rachel Boyle. Wiedenmayer and Boyle both
attended the same high school as Nicholoff - Lackawanna Trail in
Pennsylvania.
The Shorewomen return to action one week from today
with a 3:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Gettysburg.
