Box Score Washington Finishes Sixth in Pride of
Maryland
TOWSON, MD – McDaniel College captured fifth
place in the Pride of Maryland Championship presented by M&T
Bank with a 57-50 win over Washington College this afternoon at
Goucher College in Towson, MD. The Green Terror improved to 2-1
with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 1-2 with the loss.
McDaniel ended the first half on a 14-4 run and
took a 28-21 lead into the intermission. Washington shot 32.3% in
the opening half and missed its only free throw of the period.
The Green Terror led by between five and nine
points over the first 12 minutes of the second half as each team
managed just eight points. McDaniel took a 10-point lead on a
jumper and free throw by Marcus Dyson with 8:52
remaining in the game that made it 39-29. The Green Terror led by
at least seven points until WC sophomore guard Mark DeBoy
(Baltimore, MD/Mount St. Joseph) converted a lay-up and
free throw to cut the lead to 49-44 with 53.1 seconds left.
Following a McDaniel turnover, sophomore guard/forward
Kevin Breslin (Hagerstown, MD/St. Maria Goretti)
hit a jumper to trim the margin to 49-46 with 37.9 seconds
remaining, but McDaniel shot eight-for-eight from the line the rest
of the way to seal the win.
Michael Jarboe led McDaniel with
14 points on 5-for-7 shooting. He also grabbed six rebounds in the
game. Miguel Jones added 11 points, while Dyson
finished with nine points and six boards.
Senior forward Alan Kines (Towson,
MD/Towson) scored 14 points for the Shoremen, while senior
guard/forward Andrew Chambers (Williamsport, MD/St. Maria
Goretti) added 13 points and a game-high eight rebounds.
Breslin tossed in 12 points off the bench. Chambers represented the
Shoremen on the All-Pride of Maryland Team.
McDaniel shot 40% from the field in the game and
22-of-28 from the free-throw line. Washington shot just 30.3% from
the field, including a 1-for-12 mark from three-point range. The
Shoremen were also just 9-of-17 at the charity stripe.
The Shoremen return to action Tuesday with an 8:00
p.m. game at Stevenson University.
