Box Score Palasik Breaks School Record for Career
Defensive Saves in Loss
HAVERFORD, PA -- Juliana
Morgan-Trostle scored all three goals, including the
game-winner with 5.3 seconds left in the first overtime, as host
Haverford College topped visiting Washington College, 3-2, tonight
to take sole possession of third place in the Centennial Conference
field hockey standings.
Morgan-Trostle gave Haverford (10-4, 5-2 Centennial)
a 1-0 lead with a goal with 27:24 left in the first half. With
16:22 left in the half, Washington junior defender Brittany
Palasik (Severna Park, MD/Archbishop Spalding) made a
defensive save on a shot by Mary Hobbs to break
the Shorewomen's career defensive save record with 24. She would
later make three more defensive saves to up her career total to 27.
The Shorewomen (6-8, 4-3) evened the score at 1-1 when senior
attack Danielle
Rosato (Narvon, PA/Pequea Valley) buried a shot from
the left post off an assist from junior midfielder Gussie Reilly
(Mercersburg, PA/Buck Hill Falls, PA) with 6:56 left in
the half. The scored remained deadlocked at halftime after each
team recorded 12 shots in the first half.
Junior attack Emily Trees
(Kensington, MD/Connelly School of the Holy Child)
scored a go-ahead goal for the Shorewomen when she knocked in a
loose ball with 9:56 left in regulation after a shot by sophomore
midfielder Kristen Wille
(Stevensville, MD/Kent Island) was blocked. Haverford tied
things up 22 seconds later when Hobbs came down the right side and
found Morgan-Trostle for a tally. Rosato had a chance to put the
Shorewomen ahead with 6:28 left, but her penalty stroke went just
wide to the right. The Fords held a 7-5 advantage in shots in the
second half.
Haverford controlled the overtime period as
Morgan-Trostle scored on the Fords' 17th shot of the extra session
when she deflected in a pass in the circle from Bridget
Gibbons. The Shorewomen did not get a shot off in overtime
and saw the Fords awarded with 14 penalty corners in the extra
period.
For the game, Haverford finished with a 36-17
advantage in shots and a 28-8 advantage in penalty corners.
Senior goalkeeper Shannon Davis
(Sykesville, MD/Liberty) made a career-high 18 saves in
the loss for Washington, while Maggie Cronin made
six saves for the Fords.
Palasik had tied the Shorewomen's career defensive
save record during a 3-1 win over Gettysburg Saturday. The previous
record of 23 was set by Lindsey Riley from
2003-2006. With tonight's four defensive saves, Palasik also
extended her Centennial Conference and school single-season record
total to 19. Her 27 career defensive saves are one short of the
Centennial Conference record.
The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 1:00
p.m. Centennial Conference game at McDaniel.
