Palasik Breaks School Record for Career Defensive Saves in Loss

HAVERFORD, PA -- Juliana Morgan-Trostle scored all three goals, including the game-winner with 5.3 seconds left in the first overtime, as host Haverford College topped visiting Washington College, 3-2, tonight to take sole possession of third place in the Centennial Conference field hockey standings.

Morgan-Trostle gave Haverford (10-4, 5-2 Centennial) a 1-0 lead with a goal with 27:24 left in the first half. With 16:22 left in the half, Washington junior defender Brittany Palasik (Severna Park, MD/Archbishop Spalding) made a defensive save on a shot by Mary Hobbs to break the Shorewomen's career defensive save record with 24. She would later make three more defensive saves to up her career total to 27. The Shorewomen (6-8, 4-3) evened the score at 1-1 when senior attack Danielle Rosato (Narvon, PA/Pequea Valley) buried a shot from the left post off an assist from junior midfielder Gussie Reilly (Mercersburg, PA/Buck Hill Falls, PA) with 6:56 left in the half. The scored remained deadlocked at halftime after each team recorded 12 shots in the first half.

Junior attack Emily Trees (Kensington, MD/Connelly School of the Holy Child)  scored a go-ahead goal for the Shorewomen when she knocked in a loose ball with 9:56 left in regulation after a shot by sophomore midfielder Kristen Wille (Stevensville, MD/Kent Island) was blocked. Haverford tied things up 22 seconds later when Hobbs came down the right side and found Morgan-Trostle for a tally. Rosato had a chance to put the Shorewomen ahead with 6:28 left, but her penalty stroke went just wide to the right. The Fords held a 7-5 advantage in shots in the second half.

Haverford controlled the overtime period as Morgan-Trostle scored on the Fords' 17th shot of the extra session when she deflected in a pass in the circle from Bridget Gibbons. The Shorewomen did not get a shot off in overtime and saw the Fords awarded with 14 penalty corners in the extra period.

For the game, Haverford finished with a 36-17 advantage in shots and a 28-8 advantage in penalty corners.

Senior goalkeeper Shannon Davis (Sykesville, MD/Liberty) made a career-high 18 saves in the loss for Washington, while Maggie Cronin made six saves for the Fords.

Palasik had tied the Shorewomen's career defensive save record during a 3-1 win over Gettysburg Saturday. The previous record of 23 was set by Lindsey Riley from 2003-2006. With tonight's four defensive saves, Palasik also extended her Centennial Conference and school single-season record total to 19. Her 27 career defensive saves are one short of the Centennial Conference record.

The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at McDaniel.
