Box Score 2 Washington Wins Game One, Falls in Game
Two
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Host Washington College split a
double-header with McDaniel College this afternoon in Chestertown,
MD. The Shorewomen (7-7, 2-2 Centennial) won game one, 8-5, while
McDaniel (10-8, 1-1) won game two, 12-7.
In the opener, McDaniel took a 1-0 lead in the top
of the second when Hope Battista scored on an RBI
ground-out by Lauren Wildasin. The Shorewomen
answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning on a
sacrifice fly by freshman Laura Wagoner (Phoenixville,
PA/Agnes Irwin School) and an RBI single by sophomore
Leigh Carbutt (Collegeville, PA/Perkiomen Valley).
Sophomore Sally Snover (Charlotte, NC/Myers
Park) scored from third on a double steal and freshman
Shaelan Nottingham (Ocean City, MD/Stephen
Decatur) hit an RBI double to boost Washington's lead to
4-1 in the bottom of the third. An RBI single in the top of the
fourth by Jordan Beans cut the lead to 4-2, but
the Shorewomen got the run back in the bottom of the inning on an
RBI single by Snover. Erinne Warrenfeltz made it
5-3 with a home run to lead off the fifth, but the Shorewomen
scored three times in the bottom of the fifth to open up an 8-3
advantage on a two-run single by Wagoner and an RBI double by
Carbutt. McDaniel got a pair of runs in the top of the seventh, but
could get no closer as the Shorewomen held on for the win.
Freshman Kaitlin Rowan (Damascus,
MD/Damascus) went 3-for-3 with three runs scored in the
opener for Washington, while Snover was 2-for-3 with a walk and an
RBI and Carbutt was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Sophomore
Margaret Rohde (Highland Lakes, NJ/Academy of Home
Education) had a pair of hits and a run scored, while
Wagoner had three RBI. Freshman Brittany Walter (Forest
Hill, MD/C. Milton Wright) allowed five runs on 10 hits
and two walks in the win.
Battista and Warrenfeltz each had two hits, an RBI,
and a run scored in the opener for McDaniel.
The Shorewomen took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the
first in game two as sophomore Jordan Tryhubenko
(Cockeysville, MD/Dulaney) scored following a throwing
error. McDaniel went ahead, 2-1, on back-to-back home runs by
Battista and Lauren Toomey to lead of the second.
The Green Terror added two more runs on a single by Battista in the
top of the third. A two-run double by Warrenfeltz in the fourth
pushed the lead to 6-1.
Washington got a run back in the bottom of the
fifth when Wagoner scored on a play where Carbutt singled and
advanced on an error. A Snover two-run home run later in the inning
made it 6-4. The Green Terror plated three runs in the top of the
sixth, however, to stretch the margin to 9-4. Megan
Elfert hit a three-run home run in the seventh for
McDaniel for the Green Terror's final three runs. The Shorewomen
accounted for the final margin in the bottom of the seventh with a
Carbutt home run, an RBI double by Rohde, and an RBI single by
freshman Lindsey Glascock (Glenwood, MD/Glenelg).
Warrenfeltz was 3-for-3 with two walks, two RBI,
and two runs scored in the second game for McDaniel. Toomey went
3-for-3 with a walk, two RBi, and a run scored, while Battista
finished 3-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored. Elfert went
2-for-3 with a walk, three RBI, and three runs for the Green
Terror.
Carbutt went 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored,
and an RBI for the Shorewomen in the second game, while Rohde was
2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
The Shorewomen return to action tomorrow with a
1:00 p.m. non-conference double-header at York (PA).
