Menzione Posts 6-0, 6-0, Win at No. 6
WESTMINSTER, MD -- The Washington College men's
tennis team rolled to an 8-1 Centennial Conference win over host
McDaniel College this afternoon in Westminster, MD. The Shoremen
improved to 11-4 overall and 5-3 in conference play with the win,
while the Green Terror slipped to 4-10 and 0-8 with the loss.
In doubles, WC sophomore Kevin Papen
(Dover, DE/Caesar Rodney) and sophomore Aaron Ellison (Largo, FL/St. Petersburg) downed Justin
Ward and Steve French, 8-1, at No. 2,
while junior Adam Cranford (Bel Air, MD/John
Carroll) and sophomore Kyle Lisco (Toms River,
NJ/Toms River North) were 8-0 winners against Luke
Schmidt and Tim Foley at No. 3. The Green
Terror picked up a win at No. 1 as Ben Faber and
Dan Hovorka bested senior Timothy Parks
(Geneva, Switzerland/College du Leman) and freshman
Josh Hedrick (Dover, DE/Dover), 9-8(6).
The Shoremen had little trouble in singles.
Cranford beat Faber, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 1, while Papen downed
Hovorka, 7-5, 6-0, at No. 2. Washington dropped just five games at
the bottom four singles spots. Ellison beat French, 6-1, 6-0, at
No. 3, Lisco beat Ward, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 4, Hedrick topped
Aaron Waltemeyer, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 5, and
sophomore John Menzione (Chadds Ford, PA/Kennett)
blanked Schmidt, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6. Menzione improved to 11-0 in
singles this season with the win.
The Shoremen return to action tomorrow with a 1:30
p.m. match at 27th-ranked Hampden-Sydney.
