Box Score 2 Glascock with Two Hits in Game
One
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting Stevenson University
took a pair of games from host Washington College in a
non-conference softball doubleheader this afternoon at Washington
College Softball Field. The Mustangs pulled out a 5-4 win in the
opener and grabbed the second game in six innings by an 8-0 score
due to the eight-run rule. Stevenson is now 21-14, while the
Shorewomen drop to 13-19. It was the home finale for
Washington.
In the opener, the Mustangs scored three times in
the top of the second inning to grab a 3-0 lead. Jessica
Bandzwolek scored on an error by the Shorewomen to score
the game's first run. With two outs, Brittani
Rynkowski singled in two runners to push the cushion to
3-0. The Shorewomen countered with three runs of their own in the
bottom of the second. Freshman Shaelan Nottingham (Ocean
City, MD/Stephen Decatur) tripled to lead off the frame
and would score on a single by fellow classmate Laura Wagoner (Phoenixville, PA/Agnes Irwin School) to trim the
lead to 3-1. Wagoner would score on a sacrifice bunt to reduce the
lead to 3-2. Freshman Lindsey Glascock (Glenwood,
MD/Glenelg) singled down the right field line to to chase
in freshman Brittany Walter (Forest Hill, MD/C. Milton
Wright) to level the game at 3-3.
In the top of the third, Lisa
Bilski scored from first on a double by Desirae
Sullivan to give Stevenson a 4-3 lead. Sophomore
Sally Snover (Charlotte, NC/Myers Park) scored on
a fielder's choice in the bottom half of the inning to tie the
score at 4-4. The Mustangs regained the lead in the top of the
fourth when Bilski doubled home Caitlin Kwedar
with two away to give the guests the lead back at 5-4 and it proved
to be the winning run.
For Stevenson, Bilski and Sara
DiMeglio each had two hits, while Rynkowski had two RBI.
Julianne Roper got the win pitching wise and
improves to 8-6 as she went the entire way.
Glascock had two hits for WC and Wagoner plated two
teammates. In the circle, Walter took the loss and falls to 6-11
despite giving up just two earned runs in tossing a complete
game.
In game two, the Mustangs strung together three
consecutive singles with two outs to grab a 1-0 lead when
Bandzwolek drove in Bilski on the third of the straight singles.
Sarah Moelter would increase the lead to 2-0 when
she cranked a home run over the left field fence in the top of the
fourth. In the top of the fifth, Stevenson three times to take a
5-0 lead. The guests scored two runs on a Bandzwolek double to push
the lead to 4-0 and Bandzwolek would score courtesy of a fielding
error by WC to make it 5-0.
In the sixth for Stevenson, Bilski drove in two
runs with a two-bagger to make it 7-0 and she scored on an RBI
single by Desirae Sullivan to increase the bulge to 8-0 and
provided the final margin.
Desirae Sullivan was a perfect 4-for-4 to spearhead
the Mustangs' offense. Bilski was 3-for-4 with three runs scored
and two RBI, while Bandzwolek was 2-for-4 with three RBI.
Carianne Sullivan and Rynkowski both had two hits
for the visitors. Pitching wise, Moelter got the win and improves
to 11-5. She scattered four hits and allowed no runs in going the
entire way. For Washington, sophomore Meaghan Kimme
(Lumberton, NJ/Holy Cross) took the loss and falls to
6-8.
The Shorewomen are back in action Sunday with a
1:00 p.m. road double-header against Catholic in the season finale
for the Shorewomen Nine.
