Box Score 2 COLLEGEVILLE, PA -- Host Ursinus College won both
ends of a Centennial Conference softball doubleheader over visting
Washington College this afternoon at Eleanor Frost Snell Field. The
Bears (16-2, 6-0 Centennial) won game one, 7-0, and downed the
Shorewomen (8-12, 3-5 Centennial) for a 3-0 victory in the second
game.
In game one, Ursinus snapped a scoreless tie with
three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Allison
Pfrommer led off the inning with a double and scored on an
error to put the Bears up 1-0. The hosts pushed the lead to 3-0
when Kelly Kalovcak doubled in two teammates with
one away. Kristen Gallagher drove in Kalovcak on
an RBI groundout to increase the Ursinus lead to 4-0.
The Bears added three more in the bottom of the
sixth on RBI singles by Kelli Jerdan, Kalovcak and
Jamie Miles to provide the final margin.
Lauren Davis-Macedonia got the win
in the opener for Ursinus and improves to 12-1. She struck out 13
and gave up just two hits. Kalovack paced the Bears' offense with a
3-for-3 day with three RBI and a run scored. Pfrommer went 2-for-3
with two runs scored. Jerdan and Emelie McFarland
both scored twice for the hosts. For WC, freshman Brittany Walter (Forest Hill, MD/C. Milton Wright) took the loss
and falls to 3-7.
In game two, the Bears scored a run in the bottom
of the third to take a 1-0 lead. Pfrommer led off the frame with a
triple and scored on a squeeze bunt by Rachel
Vietheer. In the bottom of the sixth, Ursinus tacked on
two insurance runs to provide the final margin.
Davis-Macedonia got the win in the second game as
she struck out seven and scattered five hits. She is now 13-1
overall. Pfrommer went 2-for-3 with a run scored in the nightcap.
Walter took the loss in the circle for the Shorewomen and drops to
3-8.
The Shorewomen return to action tomorrow when they
travel to Wesley for a 3:30 p.m. non-conference twin bill against
their Delmarva rival.
