Shoremen Play to Scoreless Draw with Diplomats

Box Score

LANCASTER, PA -- Visiting Washington College played to a 0-0 double-overtime tie with host Franklin & Marshall College in Centennial Conference men's soccer action tonight in Lancaster, PA.

In the first half, the Diplomats (3-2-2, 0-0-2 Centennial) held a 9-5 advantage in shots and the Shoremen (3-4-1, 0-1-1) held a 6-3 edge in corner kicks in the period. The second half saw F&M take six shots to Washington's two. The Diplomats had the last shot of regulation as Eric Elicker sent a free kick wide with under a minute to go.

A pair of late shots by Giuseppe Bua for F&M, one that was blocked and another that went high, ended the scoring chances in the first overtime. The final shot came off the foot of WC sophomore midfielder Justin Geho (Westminster, MD/Cardinal Gibbons) with 54 seconds left in the second overtime, but was saved by F&M goalkeeper Zack Zamek

Junior goalkeeper Chris Phipps (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) made eight saves for the Shoremen, while Zamek finished with four for the Diplomats.  F&M finished with a 21-10 advantage in shots in the game.

The Diplomats had beaten the Shoremen six straight times before tonight's game.  Prior to that streak, the two teams played to another scoreless tie in 2003.

The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against fourth-ranked Swarthmore.
