Box Score LANCASTER, PA -- Visiting Washington College played
to a 0-0 double-overtime tie with host Franklin & Marshall
College in Centennial Conference men's soccer action tonight in
Lancaster, PA.
In the first half, the Diplomats (3-2-2, 0-0-2
Centennial) held a 9-5 advantage in shots and the Shoremen (3-4-1,
0-1-1) held a 6-3 edge in corner kicks in the period. The second
half saw F&M take six shots to Washington's two. The Diplomats
had the last shot of regulation as Eric Elicker
sent a free kick wide with under a minute to go.
A pair of late shots by Giuseppe Bua
for F&M, one that was blocked and another that went high, ended
the scoring chances in the first overtime. The final shot came off
the foot of WC sophomore midfielder Justin Geho
(Westminster, MD/Cardinal Gibbons) with 54 seconds left in
the second overtime, but was saved by F&M goalkeeper
Zack Zamek.
Junior goalkeeper Chris Phipps
(Newark, DE/St. Mark's) made eight saves for the Shoremen,
while Zamek finished with four for the Diplomats. F&M
finished with a 21-10 advantage in shots in the game.
The Diplomats had beaten the Shoremen six straight
times before tonight's game. Prior to that streak, the two
teams played to another scoreless tie in 2003.
The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with a 7:00
p.m. Centennial Conference home game against fourth-ranked
Swarthmore.
