Box Score White Nets Fourth Double-Double of the
Season
Chestertown, MD – Visiting Swarthmore College got a
match-high 15 digs from Hillary Santana as the
Garnet swept host Washington College, 3-0, (25-18, 25-20, 25-8) on
Tuesday night at the Cain Athletic Center in Centennial Conference
volleyball action. Swarthmore improves to 11-4 overall and
1-1 in conference play, while Washington drops to 7-11 and 0-3
respectively.
The Shorewomen cut the Garnet lead to 21-18 in the opening set
on a kill by senior middle hitter Maria Whitman
(Galesville, MD/Southern) on a pass from freshman setter
Lauren White (Huntingtown, MD/Huntingtown), but
Swarthmore scored the last four points of the first set to grab the
25-18 win. Kathryn Montemurro clinched the
set with a kill.
In the middle set, Washington took a 15-10 lead on a Whitman
kill, but the Garnet won 15 of the last 20 points to rally and
captured the second set. Swarthmore took its first lead since
7-6 at 19-18 on a Brone Lobichusky kill. An
attack error by the Shorewomen ended the set.
In the third and final set, Swarthmore used two 8-0 runs to
capture the set and the match. A ball handling error by
Washington ended the match.
For the Garnet, Sarah Lambert handed out 20
assists, while Allison Coleman netted 10
digs. Genny Pezzola had nine kills to lead
all players.
For the Shorewomen, White recorded her fourth double-double of
the season with 21 assists and 10 digs. Sophomore defensive
specialist Rita Rivera (Plymouth Meeting,
PA/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) had a team-best 12 digs, while
senior defensive specialist/libero Traci Daelemans (Tracys
Landing, MD/Southern) added 10 digs. Freshman
outside hitter Julia Erbe (Baltimore,
MD/Pikesville) hit .364 to lead all participants.
Washington is back on the road on Saturday afternoon when they
travel to Marymount for a tri-match with Marymount and Frostburg
State. The Shorewomen play Frostburg State at 2:00 p.m. and
host Marymount at 4:00 p.m. in non-conference action.
