Box Score Breslin Leads All Players With 22 Points For WC
CHESTERTOWN, MD – Visiting 18th ranked Franklin & Marshall got a double-double, a team-high 21 points and game-best 11 rebounds, from Mike Baker en route to an 84-71 win over host Washington College on Saturday afternoon at the Cain Athletic Center in Centennial Conference men's basketball action. The Diplomats improve to 11-4 overall and 6-2 in conference play, while the Shoremen fall to 4-11 and 3-5 respectively.
F&M, who never trailed in the game, jumped out to a 14-3 lead just 4:09 into the game on a layup by Steve Tolliver. The Diplomats would build up their largest lead of the contest with 10:29 to go in the first half at 27-12 on a pair of free throws by Tolliver. Washington would outscore F&M 20-13 the rest of the half to trim the lead to 40-32 at intermission.
The Shoremen opened the second half on a 16-12 run to reduce the Diplomats lead to 52-48 with 13:32 to go in the game on a triple by junior guard Sal Schittino (Ellicott City, MD/Loyola Blakefield). But Franklin & Marshall countered with a 19-6 run over the next 8:25 to take its largest lead of the game of 17 points at 71-54 with 5:07 remaining on a free throw by Hayk Gyokchyan. The Shoremen got it to within 10 points, 75-65, with 2:58 to go on a Schittino three-pointer, but could draw no closer.
Georgio Milligan added 18 points and had game-bests of five assists and five steals in the win for F&M. Tolliver netted 16 points, while James McNally grabbed 10 rebounds. F&M shot 48% from the floor and hit 30-of-38 from the free throw line. The Diplomats held a 40-26 edge on the boards and had 14 steals in the victory.
Junior guard/forward Kevin Breslin (Hagerstown, MD/St. Maria Goretti) led all players with 22 points, while Schittino added 15 points for Washington. Senior guard Dylan Bernstein (Laytonsville, MD/Gaithersburg) handed out a team-high four assists. The Shoremen shot 42% in the game and hit 14-of-16 from the charity stripe for an 88% clip.
Washington is back on the court at the Cain Athletic Center on Wednesday evening against visiting Johns Hopkins in Centennial action at 7:30 p.m.
