Shoremen Go 1-2 in 400 Individual Medley
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting Ursinus College defeated host Washington College, 118-81, in Centennial Conference men's swimming this afternoon inside Casey Swim Center. The Bears improved to 6-5 overall and 2-4 in the conference with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 1-7 and 0-4.
The Shoremen went one-two in the 400 individual medley in the loss as senior Matt Violette (Westbrook, ME/Westbrook) won the event in a Washington College season-best time of 4:29.21 and freshman Tad Derrick (Virginia Beach, VA/First Colonial) was second in 4:56.23. Junior Nick Longworth (Media, PA/Strath Haven) was second in the 100 backstroke in 57.27.
Ursinus entered the final two events as exhibitions only. Washington junior Austin Auger (McLean, VA/Langley) received the first-place points in the 100 breaststroke, finishing the event inn 1:04.42, while Violette, sophomore A.J. Feurer (Kingsville, MD/Archbishop Curley), junior Ross Mills (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch), and senior Tim Beadell (Timonium, MD/Loyola Blakefield) received the first-place points in the 200 freestyle relay, finishing in 1:35.96.
The Shoremen return to action next Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home meet against McDaniel.
