Box Score Phipps Makes 12 Saves in Loss
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting Franklin & Marshall pinned a 1-0 setback on host Washington College in Centennial Conference men's soccer action tonight on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Diplomats improved to 9-4-2 overall and 4-3 in conference play with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 3-9-2 and 1-5-1 with the loss.
Mike Irving scored at 21:01 for F&M, firing in a rebound off a shot by Ben Beaver. The Diplomats finished the first half with an 11-7 advantage in shots.
F&M held a 12-9 advantage in shots in the second half as the Shoremen could not find the equalizer. Washington's final scoring attempt came with 42 seconds left in the contest, but freshman midfielder Zach Stocksdale (Hampstead, MD/North Carroll) had his shot saved by Diplomat goalkeeper TJ White.
Washington senior goalkeeper Chris Phipps (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) made 12 saves in the loss for the Shoremen. White made seven saves in the shutout for the Diplomats.
The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. game at Swarthmore.
