Garnet Down Shoremen, 3-0

SWARTHMORE, PA -- Host Swarthmore College defeated visiting Washington College, 3-0, in a Centennial Conference men's soccer game tonight on Clothier Field. The Garnet improved to 11-5 overall and 5-3 in conference play with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 3-10-2 and 1-6-1 with the loss. 

Swarthmore broke a scoreless tie at 29:37 when Micah Rose headed in a goal off a corner kick from Roberto Contreras IV. The Garnet upped the lead to 2-0 at 38:37 when Michael Stewart scored following a long run and assist from Kieran Reichert. Swarthmore held a 13-1 advantage in shots in the first half. 

Fabian Castro made the score 3-0 in favor of Swarthmore, blasting in a goal in traffic, at 66:53. 

The Garnet finished with a 23-5 advantage in shots in the game. Washington did hold a slim 5-4 advantage in corner kicks. David D'Annunzio made two saves in the shutout for Swarthmore, while senior goalkeeper Chris Phipps (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) made seven saves for the Shoremen.

The Shoremen will finish their 2011 season Friday with a 7:00 p.m. game at Johns Hopkins.
