Lee Sets Pool Record, Relay Team Sets Pool Record
CHESTERTOWN, MD – Freshman Greg Lee (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial) broke his own pool record and the 200 freestyle relay team set a pool record, but St. Mary's (MD) captured the dual meet with a 107-98 win over host Washington College on Friday afternoon at the Casey Swim Center. The Seahawks improve to 6-0, while the Shoremen drop to 1-2. The Shoremen and Seahawks each won five events with the 100 freestyle ending up in a tie for first.
Lee set the pool record in the 100 butterfly as he won with a time of 53.15, breaking his own record of 53.40 which he set two days ago versus Salisbury. The 200 freestyle relay team of freshman James Ray (Timonium, MD/Towson), Lee, freshman Spencer Kelley (Weston, CT/Weston) and freshman Austin Yocum (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) set the Casey Swim Center pool record with a time of 1:28.91.
Ray captured the 50 freestyle (22.57) and tied for first with St. Mary's Cameron Hedquist the 100 freestyle (49.17). His time in the 100 freestyle is the 10th best all-time at WC in the event.
Senior Nick Longworth (Media, PA/Strath Haven) was victorious in the 100 backstroke (56.26).
Yocum captured second place in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:49.98.
Billy DeBoissiere of the Seahawks won the 500 and 1000 freestyle events. He set the pool record in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:05.32, which broke the record set by Washington's John Evans '04. Evans set the mark in 2001. He captured the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:01.85.
The Shoremen return to the pool on Saturday, November 19, against visiting Franklin & Marshall in Centennial Conference action at 1:00 p.m.
