Yocum Wins Two Individual Events for Shoremen
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Franklin & Marshall topped host Washington College, 125-79, in Centennial Conference men's swimming this afternoon inside Casey Swim Center. The Diplomats moved to 2-2 overall and 2-0 in conference meets with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 1-3 and 0-2 with the loss.
Freshman Austin Yocum (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) won a pair of individual events for the Shoremen, taking the 200 freestyle in 1:50.18 and the 100 freestyle in 49.34. Classmate Greg Lee (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial) won the 200 butterfly in a Washington College season-best 2:02.15. Senior Nick Longworth (Media, PA/Strath Haven), senior Austin Auger (McLean, VA/Langley), Lee, and freshman Spencer Kelley (Weston, CT/Weston) opened the meet with a winning time of 3:41.50 in the 400 medley relay, also a WC season-best.
The Shoremen's all-freshman 400 freestyle relay team of James Ray (Timonium, MD/Towson), Lee, Kelley, and Yocum were touched out for first place in a thrilling race to close the meet, but their time of 3:16.99 was the fastest time the Shoremen have swam in that event since the end of the 2006-07 season. Chris Soper, Justin Morgan, Eddie Raleigh, and Colin Soper posted a fifth-place time of 3:16.80 in that event at the 2007 Centennial Conference Championships.
Ray added a second-place finish in the 50 freestyle in 22.55, while Auger was second in the 200 individual medley in 2:07.84. Sophomore Robert Mix (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown East) placed second in the 500 freestyle in 5:13.13.
The Shoremen return to action December 3rd and 4th at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational.
